“As we move towards the 2023 presidential and legislative elections in Liberia, there will be demands for the use of the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville but due to the ongoing works, the SKD will not be available for any political event and events after its completion,” an official statement signed by the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Oxford Brown emphasized.

The statement also encourages the Chairman of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), Mulbah Morlu to reconsider its planned decision to use the SKD complex for its pending political rally slated for December 20, 2022.

The Ministry at the same time urged the CDC to see the need to take advantage of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) Facilities and others that could probably provide an option, the statement added.

Sporting venues, including the SKD Sports Complex in Paynesville, the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) in central Monrovia, among other open fields have used by political parties and other organizations to host outdoor programs/events/rallies to accommodate huge numbers of people.

In the past some of these facilities suffered wear and tear, especially the playing pitches where huge numbers of people usually converge. Now with the SKD Sports Complex undergoing some uplifting work, the Ministry has decided to ban all political, events, among others until otherwise order.

The Ministry has said it is unlike that the SKD Sports Complex will be used for political activities/events even after the completion of the work that is currently going on there.
