Nimba Officials Extol ArcelorMittal’s Support to District League

IPNEWS: “We want to appreciate ArcelorMittal-Liberia for supporting the Nimba Inter Electoral District League.

“It is the right step in the right direction as part of their corporate social responsibility”

“They added value to the league, and we look forward to them in doing more of this’’ said Prof. Johnson N. Gwaikolo, Nimba County Electoral District Nine Representative.

Representative Gwaikolo, whose district 9 stands out as the highest winner of the Inter-District League lost out to Rep. Larry P. Younquoi of Nimba County Electoral District Eight.

The win on Sunday marked the first time District 9 had achieved the grand prize in football category.

Speaking with Nimba D-9 TV, County Superintendent Nelson N. Korquoi with smiles expressed heartfelt appreciation to ArcelorMittal-Liberia for its “timely support” to the Nimba Inter District League “for the very first time”.

Said the Nimba Superintendent “I am happy for ArcelorMittal’s intervention which has enabled us to successfully come to the end of this all-important Inter district League under the theme: Sustaining the Peace through Sports”.

Former Superintendent Madame Edith Gongloe-Weh, Nimba County Head of Traditional council, Chief Peter Barloun, Reps. Gonpue L. Kargon, Larry P. Younquoi, ArcelorMittal-Liberia (AML) Team and scores of citizens attended the grand finals.

“The support from ArcelorMittal, shows how sports is can bieng us together as people and we are very happy but looking forward to the winner for the day”, the superintended added.

He said throughout the tournament, all teams showed good sportsmanship and “we know as defending champions for the National County Sports Meet, this event will add more value to our team as we prepare’’.

Larry P. Younquoi, Representative of Electoral District Eight who was lifted by fans and supporters for winning the tournament for the first-time, overwhelmed with excitement thanked all who supported the initiative.

Representative Gonpue Kargon who chairs the house committee on Claims and Petition, Madame Edith Gongloe-Weh, former county superintendent lauded all sides for their brilliant displayed of talents.

ArcelorMittal-Liberia (AML) staff Mohammed Dennis Kontay who took kickoff for the grand finals helped present trophy to the winning team and thanked the organizers for ensuring the display of good sportsmanship.

Kontay said ArcelorMittal was “very pleased” to have witnessed wonderful young sons and daughters of Nimba display real professionals’ talents through the games.

AML, he said will continue to provide the needed support to the development of sport talents in Liberia

ArcelorMittal-Liberia provided, drinking water, cash prizes, branded t-shirts, caps, medals, trophies, banners, tickets, posters, branded flyers, and as well ensured rental of PA system, live TV by Nimba D-9 TV and including commentary by several community radio in the county.
