PUL Welcomes Supreme Court’s Decision In favor of Punch FM

— Holds 58th Anniversary in Nimba County, Liberia

IPNEWS: The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) has welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision to deny the Liberian Government’s appeal against the Civil Law Court ruling on the opening of Punch FM.

The Supreme Court in its decision in favor of Punch FM indicated that the government had no legal ground in canceling the license of the station thereby denying it appeal.

Press Union of Liberia in its release described the decision as a victory for freedom of the press in Liberia.

PUL President, Charles Coffey lauded the Supreme Court for administering true justice despite the government’s determination to thwart the law.

President Coffey calls on Liberian Journalists to take advantage of the law in finding remedies for injustices against them.

Meanwhile, the PUL says it is delighted to announce activities and obligations aligned with the celebration of its 58th Anniversary slated for Sanniquellie, Nimba County.

Founded in Monrovia on September 30, 1964, the PUL is the umbrella organization serving Liberian media professionals and institutions. With a membership base of more than 1,000 journalists across the country, the PUL has oversight responsibility for addressing problems arising from journalists’ reportage and conduct in the face of the ever-growing demand for quality and good taste in addition to its foremost mandate of advocating for the protection of journalists.

To add more significance to the celebration of the 58th Anniversary of the Union, We are turning the focus on the Digital Business Model, the New Way in Media Marketing Innovation at a time business in the media has declined.

To stimulate these discussions and take a position, the PUL is inviting all its auxiliaries, media executives, reporters and friends of the media to the PUL anniversary commemoration in Sanniquellie, Nimba County from 28th to 30th   September 2022 at the City Hall.

Activities Breakdown

Wednesday, September 28, 2022- Personal Data Protection Forum on draft legislation and self-regulatory manual. The validation Forum will take place in Sanniquellie bringing together journalists and media workers.

Thursday, September 29, 2022- Field Reporting Trip to Yekepa and nearby communities.

Friday, September 30, 2022- Parade: Parade through the principal streets of Sanniquellie to give visibility to the Press Union of Liberia and allow the community to see some of the nation’s top journalists

Official Indoor Program: Official program marking the celebration will take place right after the parade during which the keynote will be delivered. Solidarity greetings will also be read at the event.

In this respect, the 2022 PUL Anniversary Committee is requiring all journalists desirous of making the trip to Sanniquellie, Nimba County to make the modest payment of ten United States (U$10). The stipulated fees are in recognition of the financial difficulties currently facing the nation.

The amount will contribute to the organization of activities set aside to mark the commemoration of the 58th Anniversary of the Press Union of Liberia. T-shirts are now on sale as part of the ten dollars payment. The PUL highly appreciates your usual support.
