Gender Ministry Identifies With Hundreds of Children

~As Liberia Celebrates 175th Independence

As Liberia celebrates its 175th independence anniversary, the Gender, Children and Social Protection Ministry in collaboration with the office of the First Lady, Amb Clar Marie Weah organized an extravaganza for hundreds of children at the Monrovia City Hall.

The July 26 Independence Celebration Children Extravaganza which forms part of the commemoration of Liberia’s 200 years of existence afforded Liberian children the opportunity to display their individual talents in ways that unpack their God-given potentials.

Assistant Minister for Children and Social Protection at the Ministry of Gender Hon Maminah Carr-Gaye opined that the Ministry usually organizes said activity for kids, but this year was more inclusive given the fact that it featured a cultural dance contest, poetry, fashion modeling spelling bee, singing contest, poem, and others.

The day-long extravaganza, which was held on Saturday, July 30, 2022, brought together Liberian children including children with disabilities from orphanage homes, learning institutions, and communities from across Montserrado County.

Speaking at the occasion, Joel Gray, Speaker of the Children’s Representative Forum lauded the government of Liberia for identifying with the children of Liberia during the Independence celebrations.

He at the same time calls on the government of Liberia through the Ministry of Education to fully implement free and compulsory primary education.

Speaker Gray also raised the concern of child labor that needs immediate address by the Liberian Government.
