IPNEWS: The Female Journalists Association of Liberia (FeJAL) is amongst the Liberian governmentβs delegation to the UN Conference of Parties (COP26) events currently taking place in Scotland, the United Kingdom.
Those representing FeJAL are its president, Siatta Scott Johnson and Kimberlyn Mckeever of the Liberia News Agency-LINA.
The Liberian delegation is part of the 30,000 delegates who have assembled at the Scottish Event Center (SEC) in Glasgow to discuss impacts on the planet and how to deliver international actions on climate change.
FeJAL’s interest during the conference as a party will focus on African Women Grassroots Climate Actions which represents a unique opportunity to engage directly with women on the ‘frontier’ of the climate emergencies in Sub-Saharan Africa.
This event will also represent women in leadership who are helping communities adapt to climate crisis through shared experiences.
FeJAL will also attend other side events like the Faith in Action to strengthen community- led and Gender Inclusive adaptation for climate justice which will be hosted by the Islamic Relief Swedish collaboration with the Act Church of Sweden.
This event will discuss the role the faith perspective plays before, during and after a climate induced crisis and how in order for climate adaptation efforts to be Gender Inclusive and locally led as well as to be sustainable and just, faith-based actors are to be an integral part of crisis affected communities.
Most interestingly, FeJAL’s concentration will be the role of gender equality in decarbonizing transport which will highlight the linkages between gender equality transport and climate change.
This event scheduled by the international transport forum draws speakers from national governments including transport Ministers, international organizations, labor organizations, foundations, and industries who will share their comments and goals in achieving gender equality through transport and climate measures.
The UN COP26 summit which began on October 31 to November 12, 2021 has brought together parties to accelerate actions towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)
Meanwhile on Monday November 1 aside from the ongoing side events, world leaders are expected to convene to step up #ClimateAction and keep the 1.5 degree Celsius.
