IPNEWS: Within less than 24hrs after the political leader of the opposition People’s Liberation Party (PLP), Dr. Daniel E. Cassell fired the Chairman of the PLP, Mr. Wilmot Paye, and other executive members for administrative reason, some members of the PLP has vowed to resist the undemocratic posture by their political leader.

According to some executives of the PLP locked into a closed-door meeting at a local hotel Monday evening, confided in IPNEWS  that the action by the PLP political leader is not only unilateral, but contravenes the constitution of the party.

The disenchanted party Executives narrated to IPNEWS that Mr. Cassell must be joying to think the PLP is his personal property that he should run at his will and pleasure.

“We will resist this undemocratic posture by Mr. Daniel Cassell. This party has rules and is governor by a set of constitution that must be respected.”

“The chairman and other party officials we duly elected and the democratic wishes of those that elected them at a mini-convention must be respected.”

“We are not going to allow undemocratic tenets to persist within the bounds of the PLP. Cassell cannot think we are good for nothing people here! The constitution of the party must be respected and the duties of the chairman and other national executive members must be upheld.” A disenchanted Executive spoke to IPNEWS on condition of anonymity.

The disenchanted PLP Executives explained that if the decision is not reverse within the coming days they will be moving g to the National Elections Commission, and subsequently to the Supreme Court.

This is the second time, Mr. Wilmot Paye has been axed from similar position. In 2020, Mr. Wilmot Paye was removed as National Chairman of the former Unity Party (UP) by the executive committee of the party.

The UP in a press release issued on March 4, 2020, stated that the “The removal of Mr. Wilmot Paye as National Chairman came as a result of recommendations made by the Special Investigative Committee established by the NEC to investigate actions and decisions taken by Mr. Paye that contravened the party’s constitution and brought to question the reputation of the party both locally and internationally,” the party stated in a press release.

The National Executive Committee of the UP has since mandated Vice Chairman Isaac Mannah to continue to act as Chairman and in consultation with the leadership lead the party to extraordinary convention within a period of two months. The Acting National Chairman was also mandated to lead the party, in conjunction with the Standard Bearer, in the talks to conclude the Collaborating Document of the Collaborating Political Parties pending the approval of the Executive Committee, the UP press release issued noted.

Some of the disenchanted PLP Executives informed IPNEWS that Mr. Paye and other leftwing party executives have been calling for the decentralization of the PLP, and instituting other reforms other than mere cash dishing without a centralized structure which has not gone well with Mr. Cassell and other loyalist.

Meanwhile, there has been no further comment officially from the PLP on report of the axing of its chairman by its Political leader Dr. Daniel Cassell.
