Three LNP Officers Allegedly Beat Truck Driver to Death

IPNEWS-Monrovia: Three days after the dedication of the Japan Freeway in Monrovia, a truck driver identified as Alieu Sheriff was allegedly beaten to death by three Liberia National Police (LNP) officers along the newly contracted four-lane road.

According to reports reaching IPNEWS, while Mr. Sheriff was driving along the Japan Freeway, an officer assigned at Zone 4 Police Station pulled him over for inspection and subsequently parked his truck at the National Transit Authority (NTA) fence opposite the Chicken Soup factory Community in Gardnersville Township.

The report continued that, after an interrogation, Alieu demanded for his truck release from the police which sparked heavy commotion.

According to an eye witness, during the verbal interactions, an unidentified police officers starting beaten on driver Alieu to the point of death. Speaking to an eye witnesses, they said, while an angry crowd moved to mock the office to death and put ablaze the NTA headquarters where Alieu truck was parked, the Liberian National police immediately send two police vehicle for rescue and the perpetrator escaped the seen.

Meanwhile speaking to OK FM 99.5 in Monrovia, another driver who was with the deceased in the truck prior to the incident, Sekou Kromah, explained that about three officers beat Sheriff and left him helpless on the ground until he reportedly died.

According to Sekou, the situation occurred when the police arrested their truck along the Japan Freeway on Thursday July 29, 2021 and impounded it in the NTA fence for several minutes while they released other vehicles that they had earlier impounded.

He added that, the situation angered the deceased, which made him to demand the release of his truck. Sekou disclosed during the process, the police officers requested Sheriff to leave the fence, but the deceased refused and was allegedly beaten by three officers.

However, the police Spoke person Moses Carter has told a local radio that the LNP is investigating the incident involving their three officers. He noted the Professional Standard Division is investigating the incident and justice will be done.
