IPNEWS-Monrovia: The Plenary of the Senate has mandated authorities of the Ministry of Public Works (MPW), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) and the Paynesville City Corporation (PCC) to do a comprehensive report to the Committees on Public Works and Internal Affairs in relation to the alleged violation of the Zoning and Environmental Law, as well as the Municipal Ordinances in the City of Monrovia and its environs.
The decision by Plenary was triggered by the failure of Acting Public Works Minister, Ruth Coker Collins, Environment Protection Agency Executive Director, Prof. Wilson K. Tarpeh, including Monrovia City Mayor, Jefferson T. Koijee and the acting Mayor of the City of Paynesville to provide adequate responses to issues raised relative to the violation of Zonal and Environmental Law and Municipal Ordinances in the City of Monrovia and its environs.
The witnesses appeared before the August Body on Tuesday July 20 to provide clarities with respect to the Senate citation.
The Appearances of the supra mentioned institutions to respond to Senate’s request was precipitated by a communication, which was addressed to Plenary by Sinoe County Senator, Cllr. Augustine Chea flagging several issues of waste around the City and its environs and the construction of several structures on wetlands and within unregulated zonal areas.
Following deliberations on the issue by several Senators in session, a motion was proffered by Bomi County Senator Edwin M. Snowe for the aforementioned authorities to do a comprehensive report to the Committees on Public Works and Internal Affairs, which will in turn submit same to Plenary to make a determination as to whether or not to re-invite authorities of the various institutions, a release issued Tuesday, July 20, 2021 by the acting Director of Press & Public Affairs of the Senate, Alfred Z. Johnson says.
