As Health Ministry Threatens to Impose Lockdown or Curfew

IPSNEWS – Monrovia: The Ministry of Health, through the Liberian Government, has placed a ban on all persons travelling from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh within the last 14 days. They won’t be allowed entry into the country. This new directive comes amid the rapid spread of the Coronavirus Disease.

In its revised Covid-19 National Guidelines, the Health Ministry said, “In consequence of increasing cases of the coronavirus disease in Liberia and given the statistics on the current spread of the virus in the communities, its modes of transmission, and means of prevention, the Ministry of Health here announces a revised set of National Covid-19 Guidelines pursuant to chapter 14 of the Public Health Law of Liberia.”

In the revised guidelines, the Ministry released 20 protocols that everyone within Liberia’s borders is mandated to adhere to.

  1. Passengers who have been travelling from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh within the last 14 days will not be allowed entry into Liberia.
  2. All persons shall mandatorily: Wear masks all times in public; Ensure social physical distancing and Wash hands
  3. Covid positive persons and contacts are required to comply with the health authorities.
  4. Public officers are required to reduce staff by 50%

In count 19, the Ministry threatens to impose a lockdown and or curfew if these guidelines are not fully complied with.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health itself announced in an internal memorandum that it was decided to reduce the number of its staff working in the building by 50%; adding: “This is to reduce the transmission of the virus within our community.” The Ministry was forced to take this measure because of the “positive testing of some of our staff” and with the daily increase of the Coronavirus in the country.
