Commerce Ministry Seizes Contaminated Rice

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has seized and quarantined a consignment of a considerable quantity of rice at the Freeport of Monrovia following verification of water had entered a shipping vessel that conveyed the products into the country thereby contaminating the products.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Commerce, says it will begin the disposal of the rice at the Wein Town disposal site in Paynesville commencing March 2, 2021 at 8:00 am.

The release also states that the Ministry is working with all line ministries and agencies to ensure proper disposal of the damaged commodity, and commended all stakeholders and businesses for their cooperation in assuring the safety of consumers by not allowing harmful commodities entering the Liberian markets.
