Nimba COUNTY: CPP RUNS TO COURT OVER DEMAND FOR RECOUNT, AS NEC DECLARES KOUNG WINNER

IPNEWS-Monrovia: CITIZENS IN NIMBA HAVE CALLED FOR RECOUNT AS THE NATIONAL ELECTION COMMISSION (NEC) HAS OFFICIALLY DECLARED REP KOUNG AS WINNER OF THE DECEMBER 8 SPECIAL SENATORIAL ELECTION.

Citizens of Nimba particularly supporters of Madam Edith Gongloe-Weh were seeing in a huge numbers at the headquarters of the “FRIENDS OF EDITH “ FOE movement in Ganta Nimba county on Wednesday afternoon 16 December 2020 in demand of votes recount or rerun in Nimba.

The group predominantly women and youths were holding placards carrying the inscription NEC count our votes correctly, let the people will prevail, Nimbaians have spoken, among other political chants.

Since the National elections commission NEC begun the pronouncement of provisional results across the country after the December 8 special senatorial election and the national referendum, there have been too many controversies in Nimba on grand that the process was marred by fraud and irregularities.

Meanwhile, the national elections commission has officially declared Rep Jeremiah Kpan Koung of the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction “MDR” as winner in NIMBA of the December 8 special senatorial election with 36.12% garnering 37,899 votes, while his closest rival Madam Edith Gongloe-Weh accumulated the total votes of 34,153, constituting 32.55%.

In NIMBA there were seven candidates who contested for the senatorial seat including Rep Jeremiah Kpan Koung of electoral district #1, businessman Taa Z Wongbay, former electoral district #4 representative Garrison D. Yehlue , Former Senator Saye-Taryor A. Dolo, incumbent senator Thomas S. Grupee and two former Nimba County superintendents, Madam Edith Gongloe-Weh and David Dorr Cooper.

Even though the leadership of the collaborating political parties CPP, has accused the CDC led government of stealing votes from their candidate in Nimba County in the interest of the CDC, up to press time, there’s been no prove to corroborate their claims.

In a related development, the leadership of CPP has protested the result.
According to them, their candidate has been cheated.

According to the party’s chairman in Nimba County, Saye Larkpor, the party has already filed in a complain seeking for recounts in the county Nimba.
Meanwhile, the local election Magistrate Belehta Flomo, according to our Nimba County correspondent confirmed the complaint letter.

Flomo added that, first the first hearing on December 15, 2020 the huge dissatisfaction, they decided to run to the Supreme Court.

Confirmed sources within the corridor of the court have told the Independent Probe Newspaper that another hearing is expected tomorrow, December 18, 2020.
