BY: ARCHIE SEIBOB YINI
IPNews-Monrovia: On Friday morning, September 18, 2020, angry crowds predominantly students in Ganta City took to the streets matching from the NP gas station toward the police station demanding Justice in the alleged killing of an 18 year old boy Samuel Selleh, a 9th grade student at the Ganta YMCA high school, in Ganta city, Nimba.
The group’s decision is motivated by a case involving a former deputy police Commander of Ganta, Sensie Kowo and the late Samuel Selleh.
Officer Kowo is said to have allegedly murdered the victim Β around Jackie’s Guests house along the Ganta-Monrovia highway on the 9th of March 2020.
He allegedly committed the act during the night hours when he had gone to respond to private security call to clear their environment of group of men believed to be criminals and drugs addicts whom they claimed were disturbing them.
It was during the process that the late Samuel Selleh, who eyewitnesses said was not part of the suspected criminals had an encounter with officer Kowo that considering him to be one of those bad guys, allegedly strangled him.
He was later reported dead few minutes after the incident at a nearby clinic facility.
Following the incident, the officer was arrested, disrobed and sent to Sanniquellie central prison to await court prosecution while the corpse of the boy is being kept at the Gompa Funeral Services awaiting burial.
But since his transfer to Sanniquellie, information has it that Officer Kowo is yet to appear before the 8th judicial circuit Court for any trial.
The students under the canopy, Ganta High Students Union headed by Student Daniel Dahn presented their petition at the Liberia national police Ganta detachment giving seven days ultimatum beginning this Friday September 18, 2020 for their demands to be met.
According to the Students, the alleged perpetrator Kowo is not currently at Sanniquellie prison were he was placed behind bars awaiting trial and has allegedly been taken to an unknown destination.
Despite the Students’ protest, the family members of the late Samuel Selleh in collaboration with motorcyclists in Nimba have planned another protest threatening to disrupt every electoral process in the county.
The protest for both family members and motorcyclists is expected to commence on Monday September 21, 2020.
According to family sources, the protest will be indefinite until a full redress of the case is met.
It can be recorded, on September 30, 2015, a bright Wednesday morning, angry crowds predominantly Motorcyclists and residents took to the streets of Ganta matching from the LPMC road toward the police station demanding Justice in the killing of several cyclists including ordinary citizens of Nimba.
The incident was triggered by the gruesome killing of a Motorcylist, Nathan Wehgbaye around the former Methodist sports pitch, now used by an electricity Company, UTE.
Nimba County has been rated as one of the violent Counties as an epicenter of violence and murder in the country.
