Bad road hinder Orphans livelihood in Bong county

IPNews-Bong Co.: Bad Road connectivity is said to be hindering the well being and lives of orphans at the Feleta Children Village.
The Feleta Children Village is located within the Lelekpayea Community, about two miles from the main road in electoral district#2.

The children village was established in 2004 and began to operate an elementary school in a misshaped building in 2007.
Currently, the Children’s Village caters to a little over 200 orphans from across three counties- Bong, Margibi and Montserrado.

A survey conducted by the Independent Probe Newspaper, says the road that connects the home to the city is completely a death trap due to recent flooding caused by the rain.

According to the two executives of the home, Mr. Samuel Paye and Mrs. Marcelina Marshall Paye, the condition is seriously affecting the lives of the children.

“When we receive things at this home, we will have to put them on our heads to walk for over eight (8) minutes to bring them to this place. We will spend over an hour carrying these things. It is staling development at this center” they lamented.

They however admitted that the road was temporarily constructed by them six years ago to be used by motorcycles and to connect the home with Gbarnga but has been damaged beyond adding that it is very difficult for motorbikes to reach the home.

“It’s even very difficult for bikes to come here. We will have to get down and take our belongings on our head. Car can’t even come around here because of the bad road condition” they added.

A reliable source informed the Independent Probe newspaper that kids are usually seen carrying their rations and other items over their heads due to the bad road condition.

According to the two executives, they have made several fruitless calls to the Bong county Administration to aid in the construction but to no avail.

They admitted that majority of the kids at the place are offspring of either disabled, war affected, single parent or extremely poor people from across the three counties.

They also launched an appeal for more support towards the children as future leaders.

Meanwhile, some of the orphans joined the campaign to appeal for assistance from both national government and international organizations.

Daniel Paye, 17, said “there is a need that the county authority and prominent citizens see reason and help us to recondition our road to create easy access for us.”

Musu Tokpah, 15, lamented that “this road is a serious problem for us. During this raining season, it is very difficult for us to go on the road or even on the campus.”
