Over Gbezohnga Findley Resignation: “Real Mess,to clean up”, Amara Konneh Sends Bomb Blast

IPNews-Monrovia: Less than 24 hours after former Foreign Minister Gbezohnga M. Findley , resigned his post as Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, former Finance and Development Planning Minister, Amara Konneh, has fired a bomb blast against the resignation.

Amara Konneh in a rather usual Facebook post asked:
Theoretical or a real nation? In an apparent disgust over the resignation of Mr. Findley five months ahead of the mid-term Senatorial Elections schedule to take place on December 8,2020.

The World Bank Executive stated that ‘all appointed officials resigning now to contest shouldn’t be on the ballot in Dec 2020, as outlined in Section 5.2 of the Code of Conduct Act of 2015.

“We aren’t a real nation if we continue to break our laws. A real “mess” to clean up!” Amara Konneh posted.

Latest report coming out of Grand Bassa County, say former Foreign Minister Gbezohnga Milton Findley, has won the primaries of the Coalition for Democratic Change-CDC Senatorial seat unopposed.

It may be recalled early this morning Former Foreign Minister Gbezohnga Milton Findley tendered in his resignation as Minister of Foreign Affairs.

In a late diplomatic circulars issued to various Liberia diplomatic missions across the world, Minister Findley thanked all for their continued commitments to serving Liberia even during difficult moments.

Findley also lauded the level of support accorded him while he served as Minister of Foreign Affairs over the last three years.

Mr. Findley wrote: “I present my compliment and wish to advise that I shall be leaving my post as Minister of Foreign Affairs as of July 27, 2020. I want to thank you and your staff for the kind consideration and support given me during my tour of duty as we worked in the interest of our beloved country. I trust that you will lend similar support and cooperation to my successor. I wish you continued success in you endeavor to make a positive showing of our country to the world.”

Former Minister Gbezohnga Findley headed his last official duty on yesterday at the Monrovia City Hall, where Liberia celebrated its 173 Independence Day Anniversary.

The resignation of comes amidst speculation that he intends to contest the up coming Mid-term Senatorial elections slated for December 8,2020.

It may be recalled,  Mr. Findley was recently petitioned by traditional leaders, youth and women groups in Grand Bassa County, to represent them at the Senate by contesting the December 8 special election.

The Traditional leaders headed by the Chief Grand Zoe of Grand Bassa Edward Garmah, said they have evaluated all of the aspirants and believe that Findley is the most suited to make a representation for them.

At the time, Representative Matthew Joe of Buchanan District, who received the petition from the elders, promised to liaise with the county superintendent, Janjay Baikpeh to take their petition to allow Foreign Minister Findley to return to the county.

Foreign Mission sources informed IPNews that former Minister Gbezohnga Findley, tendered in his resignation on Friday, at the residence of President George Manneh Weah, but was asked to stay on until the official 173 Independence Day Anniversary were over.

Mr. Findley’s resignation now paves the way for what is expected to be an intense race in the vote-rich Grand Bassa County, against the incumbent Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence and another challenger, District No. 4 Representative, Vincent Willie.

As of the 2008 Census, it had a population of 224,839, making it the fifth most populous county in Liberia.

Rep. Vincent Willie(District No. 4), who was elected on the ticket of the opposition Liberty Party, a member of the four-party opposition alliance has ruffled feathers with his intention to contest the Senatorial seat, declaring recently that he would be the next senator.

“I don’t have a major contender because to be a contender it means you must have done something tangible that you can show to the Bassa people. I have built roads, create more jobs for people of my district, sent young men and women out of Liberia to China to get Master’s degrees and I want to do the bigger one for everyone if I am elected as the next senator.”

It may further be recalled last year, President Weah, in the memo warned that in keeping with Government’s policy of strict adherence to the law, and for the purpose of coordination and maximum productivity, all officials appointed by the President, pursuant to Article 56 of the Liberian Constitution and all civil servant covered by the Code of Conduct (COC) are directed to adhere to the stipulation of the COC regarding requirement for public officials ahead of the 2020 mid-term elections.

“As you are aware, chapter 5.2 of the Code of Conduct, which intent was addressed by the Honorable Supreme Court prior to 2017 elections prescribe that anyone intending to contest for political office shall not continue to hold on to said office.

Meanwhile,President George Manneh Weah, has accepted the resignation of Foreign Affairs Minister Gbehzohngar M. Findley. The resignation takes effect Tuesday, July 28, 2020.

In the letter of resignation dated July 27, 2020, Minister Findley thanked President Weah for affording him the opportunity to serve his country as Foreign Affairs Minister. He said he enjoyed, and was pleased with, President Weah’s confidence, cooperation and support.

“My service in the Coalition administration has afforded me the opportunity to work with some very remarkable personalities internationally, locally and within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. And I am very grateful,” he said in his resignation letter to Dr. Weah.

“I owe you a debt of gratitude for affording me the opportunity to serve and implement your administration’s agenda,” the former Foreign Minister further told President Weah. “You can rest assured, Mr. President, of my unflinching support as my leaving the Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not suggest me leaving my commitment to the Coalition for Democratic Change. I also count on your support as I embark on this journey of seeking to re-enter the Liberian Senate.”

Mr. Findley, who was confirmed by the Liberian Senate on February 22, 2018 following his appointment by President Weah, was recently petitioned on by the elders and people of Grand Bassa County to contest the senatorial seat of that county during the forthcoming mid-term elections in December.

The bomb blast of Hon Amara Konneh is timely and also in a direct form.
Today our country law is damaged by George Weah leadership, he failed to understand that , during the time as senator of montserrado county, the signed the code of conduct in the house of Senate.
Why today George Weah is trying to damage by violating our constitution of the state; it looks so demonic and dangerous for the peace and security of we they citizens of Liberia.
So we are calling upon the international community and all foreign partners of the outside world to put stop to these mess these government wants to bring in our country.

  2. You know there are too many people who have the right words to spill out in every situation. Good point Mr. Konneh, but belated in its application. You all sat here and ruin the rule of law in this country. Had the Gender minister in the Ellen administration in office till two weeks before elections, Abu, never even resigned and the list goes on. Now the coin has turn the table and you bring you self righteous self to talk like an angel. It is people like you who for the love of power destroyed this country to bring it to this point.
When you had the opportunity to uphold the law you helped to abrogate it. Now it is someone else you become a patriot. Shame.
