IPNews-Monrovia: The on-air arrest of CNN journalist Omar Jimenez and two crew members by Minnesota police on Friday, is a troubling concern for global press freedom.

Jimenez and colleagues were reporting on protests over the death in police custody of George Floyd by Minnesota police.

Accordoing to a release issued in Monrovia, the Society for Liberia Journalist condemns the action as action of a Authoritarian governments and dictactors on the African continent and other parts of the world keen on the elimination of the free press could see the images from the United States as unique justifier to muzzle the independent media and journalists they naturally hate.

The Society of Liberian Journalists (SLJ) is calling on the United States Government to correct the uncivilized and abusive actions of its law enforcement officers with appropriate sanctions.

The Minneapolis episode should not be punctuated by the mere release of harmless journalists.

Punitive stance against the officers involved will send a clear message that the US coveted First Amendment rights is alive at all times to kick against individuals and institutions hateful of the free press.
