Protesters Threatened To Campaign Against Senators In 2020 if…

Three rights grouping, including Economic Freedom Fighters of Liberia (EFFL), Student Unification Party (SUP), Coalition for Islamic Organizations (CIO) Thursday February 28, 2019 petitioned the Liberian Senate to VOTE against the impeachment bill – describing it as politically motivated.

The groups issued a five count petition to convince senators to abandon the
entire impeachment proceedings -with a threat to boot them out in 2020 senatorial elections if they failed to abandon the process and impeached Kabineh Ja’neh .

Reading the petition on behalf of rights group, Emmanuel Gonquoi, head of EFF threatened vowed to rally Liberians to campaign against current seated senators within the 15 counties failure to adhere to their petition.

The protesters accused President George Weah and his followers of being behind the plot to impeach the Associate Justice, Kabineh Ja’neh for political reasons.

In the five counts petition below said; “ We call on [you] behalf of the Liberian people to focus more on national development than focusing on self-enrich agenda that will create crisis or undermine the peace of the nation;

“ We ask that the Judiciary and the national Legislature to operate independently without the control of the Executive, “ The illegal planned removal of Vice President as Vice President of Liberia should also be discouraged for the purpose of promoting national peace and development;

“To have control over future elections and prevent fraudulent practices and
constitutional crisis in Liberia, we call for an immediate election reform;

“ That you abandon [senate] the ongoing unconstitutional impeachment of
Kabineh Ja’neh and return to a process that will show respect to our constitution, peace and development,” the petition concluded.

Receiving the petition of behalf of the Liberian Senate, Gbarpolu County Senator Armah thanked the groupings for the peaceful assembly.

He also thanked the Liberian People through the Ministry of Justice to allowing exercise their constitutional rights.

The former Senate Pro-Tempt assured the group to submit the petition to the
requisite committee for prompt action.
