IPNews-Monrovia-Liberia-20 2018: Representative Samuel Korgar of Nimba County District # 5 has disclosed that he will lead a campaign to collect money from citizens of the county to heir a lawyer for Senator Prince Yormie Johnson when indicted by the War and Economic crimes court.
Making the revelation on Ok FM afternoon conversation Monday, representative Korgar said senator Johnson is a son of Nimba, as such, the county needs to stand by him if he is to appear in court.
The Nimba district # 5 lawmaker explained that the senator is accused of crimes against humanity and should be supported by his county to prove himself guilty or not whenever call by the War and Economic crimes court WCC.
Korgar maintained that he will take the lead to rally around citizens of the county in hiring lawyer for the senator and any other son or daughter of the county who may be invited by the international court.
He called on his kinsman to retract his statement that citizens of the county will resist any invitation or arrest by the War Crimes Court.
The Nimba law maker who refused to accept or reject the establishment of war and economic court in Liberia stated that ‘no one can reject their child because of allegation leveled against them’.
It can be recalled that Senator Johnson was bitter with Representatives Samuel Korgar, Larry Younquoi and Cllr Tiawon Gongloe on grounds that they were in support of the establishment of war and economic court in Liberia something which lead the Senator making the statement that he knew their homes of the pairs and could visit them.
For his part, Representative Larry Younquoi appearing on the OK FM afternoon conversation recently categorically condemn the Senator’s statement and stated that he will signed the document calling for the establishment of the War and Economic crimes court .
Younquoi who described the Senator’s statement as reckless and irresponsible and insisted that those who committed crimes should not go with impunity.
Recently, the House of Representative of the US Congress passed a resolution calling for the full implementation of the truth and reconciliation commission-TRC recommendation in Liberia.
Meanwhile, Representative Korgar has further disclosed that Nimba county is yet to receive 3.1 million USD under the county development fund from the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning for development in the county.
Korgar cautioned the Finance Ministry to make available the money belonging to the county for development to take place.
According to him, the money is a combination of funds from Arcelor Mittal as their corporate social responsibility fund to the county and the social development from the government of Liberia to the county.
He asserted that due to the delay in the disbursement of the money to the county, all development activities have come to a standstill in the county.
“All the yellow machine belonging to the county are down, pregnant women are finding it difficult to reach to clinics due to bad road conditions because the yellow machines are not at work.” Korgar stated.
The district 5 lawmaker mentioned that they as Nimba lawmakers are expected to meet with president George Weah to explain the county situation for him to prevail on the finance Minister to release the county money.
