LEC Caution: ‘Report unscrupulous Men On Light Poles’

IPNews-Monrovia,Liberia-3 May 2018: Authorities at the Liberian Electricity Corporation has hinted of the movement of unscrupulous individuals in various communities in Monrovia and its surroundings claiming to be employees taking away customers meters.

According to a release from the LEC, those unscrupulous men are engaged in acts not sanctioned by the Corporation and warned the public to report any person on their poles.

“These criminals have been stealing customers’ meters, and demanding payments to repair faulty lines. Most often these criminals are also engaged in the illegal sales of stolen meters, light poles, transformers and other electrical accessories which are not meant to be sold.” The release said.

The Management of LEC further said that the activities of these individuals are not authorized by the Corporation and call on Customers whose meters were stolen to notify its Commercial Services Department through written communication and include meter number, contact numbers and location.

Additionally, the release cautions the public against the purchase of stolen meters, poles and electrical cables from these individuals as the LEC does not charge customers for repair of faults or breakdowns on its electricity network.

LEC: “All such repairs are carried out free of charge. The public is urged to report to LEC at any of our offices, details of any LEC employee, or any other person offering to make network repairs, for a fee. In addition, the public is encouraged to report any occurrence of such criminal act in your community to the nearest police station as individuals involved in any of the foregoing illegal acts will face the full weight of the law.” The release concludes.
