IPNews-Monrovia,Liberia-9 March 2018: The Inspector General (IG) of the Liberian National Police (LNP), Col. Patrick Sudue has clarified the issue on the restrictions and regulations on motorcyclist plying the streets of Liberia at a press conference held at the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism in the late hours of the morning of 8 March, 2018.
“At no time did the Liberia National Police lift ban on motorcyclists… rather we were reinforcing the ban”; they are observing two areas else will reinforce it 100% if the general public is not happy with their decision. Patrick added.
He said, due to the difficulty citizen’s face in getting to their various homes, schools and work place and also various complains from citizens, they decided to lift the restriction in some part of the city and observe these areas, because they work for the interest of the public and also to reduce the stress people faces in getting to their destination but this opportunity has been abused by those cyclists.
Appearing before the Liberia Senate yesterday, the IG said he has observed that people going home late at night has become victims of bag snatching, pick pocketing and other evils done in the streets.
He added saying, before coming up with the decision, he has called for a meeting with leadership of the Motorcyclists Union next week, in order to dialogue how to implement the issue at hand-adding so that both the cyclists and police can work hand in hand and the people will be safe, which is the priority of the police.
