Deputy Speaker, Prince Moye Caution Lawmakers: “Do not be Complacent in the Discharge of your Legislative Function”

IPNews-Monrovia,Liberia-24 February 2018:The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives has challenged lawmakers to be more focused in the discharge of their respective Legislative function during this Legislative seating.

Representative Moye, speaking at a three-day Orientation Session  for members of the National Legislature at the Farmington Hotel in Margibi County, he said this will allow them to acquire the necessary knowledge on the power of lawmaking, oversight and representation.

He encouraged his colleagues to fulfill their electoral campaign promises and give serious attention to views and comments of their office staffs, who serve them. Deputy Speaker Moye stressed the importance of working together with their office staff who he said are their technical arms.

The Bong County District # 2 lawmaker further told his colleagues to take serious advantage of the Orientation Session, indicating that members of the 53rd House of Representatives didn’t benefit from such training from the National Democratic Institution (NDI). The Orientation is organized by the National Democratic Institute (NDI) with support from USAID.

Meanwhile, the US Embassy Charge D’Affairs, Samuel Watson said the United States government supports the recent statements made by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Bhofal Chambers, regarding the rebranding of the Legislature.

He urged members of the House of Representatives to build stronger party alliance through their various caucuses, adding “your most important alliance is with the people both those who voted for you and everyone whom you represent.”

For his part, the Program Director of NDI, Artan Alijaj welcomed members of the House of Representatives to the NDI-USAID training session.
