Global Partnership for Education Gives US$ 11.9M Grant For Education In Liberia

IPNews-Monrovia,Liberia-29 December 2017: Global Partnership for Education (GPE) for Liberia has approved a grant of US$11.9 million to the Ministry of Education for rapid reform of the education sector of Liberia.

 

The US$11.9 million grant from the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) for Liberia, according to an Education Ministry release, will support the reform process of the country’s education program, particularly improving access to quality education especially targeting disadvantaged communities and strengthening national school accountability systems.

 

Specific beneficiaries of the program, according to the release, include approximately 40,000 Early Childhood Education students in targeted disadvantaged counties, 60 community caregivers and 1,400 teachers who will benefit from training to improve their effectiveness to teach Early Childhood Education level students.

 

Other beneficiaries are 1,500 principals who will benefit from principal certification training under the project and 98 District Education Officers who will benefit from capacity-building activities under the project.

 

The release quotes the Ministry of education as saying; the approval of the grant serves as a vote of confidence in the “Getting to Best” Education Sector Plan, the Ministry’s cornerstone education reform policy.

 

In the letter from GPE announcing the approval of the grant, the organization noted that it “appreciates the coherent program with a central focus on quality.”

 

On behalf of the GOVERNMENT OF Liberia, Education Minister George K. Werner stated that the Government of Liberia is very grateful to the Global Partnership for Education-GPE for its support and pledged to continue strengthening the education sector mainly placing emphasis on domestic financing of education.

 

“We are grateful for the support of the Global Partnership for Education as we work towards our goal of providing quality education for all Liberian children. We are getting to best, and we can’t turn back now,” Education Minister George K. Werner said.
