Williams School

IPNEWS-Monrovia: Several parents early Wednesday, September 14 morning stormed the campus of the Levis C. Williams School in Sinkor demanding reasons why the School’s administration has refused to set a Graduation Date for their children who completed the 2021/2022 Academic School year.

The parent’s actions led to students who are currently enrolled for the Academic 2022/2023 school year classes being disrupted and were outside of the school campus.

Some of the parents who spoke to IPNEWS said some of them engaged the school from August up to the present to inquire why the delay but the School has not been able to tell them when they are going to have the graduation exercise, thus they (parents) decided to block the entrance of the school to call on the attention of national Leaders in the Educational sector.

According to Lovett Jallah, the reasons for them gathering at the school was to tell the Administration what they are going through. “Our children have taken Entrance exams of various Universities and those institutions are requesting them to submit their high school documents but no avail because Levi C. Williams School is not telling us anything”.

She said they will not rest until the school’s administration come up with a specific date for graduation and it’s time that the school pays attention to their cries.

Mrs. Jallah disclosed that she paid US$1,700 every year for each child like other parents but the Administration of Levi C. Williams doesn’t care but only gets the money from them, adding “but we will stay here until we get redress.”

“The school is now telling us that they are setting up a date for graduation but we parents are not informed and part of the said decision on the ground that they want to do it their way “.

As the parents were protesting at the School the Liberia National Police came in to help the school and the parents to reach a common ground which led to a board Meeting, while the students who came to school in the morning were then allowed to go to class.

On his part, the Principal of the School said it was good that the parents listened to them in the interest of the students. He said they are planning the graduation program but there was some wrong misinformation going to the parents but in the end it was good that they listened to them.

Principal Melina G. Gweh stated it is time that the parents come together to help the school this time around to plan the graduation.

He promised the parents that they are going to get back to them in the next one week in the best interests of the students and the school. By: Taisiah K. Merfee
