Mediation Not Interference– National Christian Council Clarifies

The head of National Christian Council has reacted to comments circulating that recent mediation lunched by the Council are religious interference in the political Process of Liberia following contestation by aggrieved parties at the October 10 elections results.

Pastor Jasper Ndaborlor on behalf of the Council stated that it was unthinkable for some Liberians speak disrespectfully to the Council mediation efforts as “Interference “.

Pastor Ndaborlor, said Liberians tired of any form of crisis issues that would have propensity to cause civil war and the National Christian Council of Liberia will continue to work in mitigating any forms of violence or protest that will take the country back to conflict.

“Liberians had experienced the war but are unfortunately some quick to forget through their repeated actions of those vices which contributed to the nearly 10 years civil war”. He observed.

Recounting on the Farmington peace accord, Pastor Ndaborlor stated that all political parties committed themselves to maintaining the peace either by mediation or through the judicial system.

“The legal process we have today is borrowed from America and the court must rule on the cases expeditiously, let the truth prevail and let the right thing be done. War is expensive and the Mano River countries are not be willing to accept us so we must come together and make sure maintain the peace. He called.

The head of the National Imam Council of Liberia, Chief Imam Alie Krayee said it’s time that Liberians pray for the National Election Commission.

He said – “The problem we have in this country are caused by the sacrifice of truth, when people decide that truth should be sacrificed for one interest, there can be no peace no matter how much we pray without justice.”

“We are praying for ourselves and the country because this is the only country we have and no one want to live in foreign land unless you are not patriot.”

“We are praying for ourselves, political leaders and the country but we have to pray for the National election commission, we have constitutional time limit, no one want constitutional crises,

“You can’t build your house on sand and expect it to survive, and the foundation for peace in this country should be transparent and credible election. We have to pray for NEC and the media people,” he said.

Liberia’s Peace Ambassador Rev. William Tolbert said peace is transparency, good governance and accountability. “The peace begin with all of us and we must maintain the peace, if we have foreign soldiers they won’t help because if don’t agree.”

Meanwhile, the head of National Traditional Council Chief Zanzar Kawor said Liberians must respect themselves and traditional leaders.

He states: “Liberian people hard to listen to the elders, and when the rain come down we want find shelter, Liberians the religious and traditional people are calling on us to respect ourselves.”

“Town trap not for rat along, the time Taylor was coming we told them they insisted that Taylor should come and when he came he sew plenty people clothes and some of the clothes were sewn by the children behind him. So if they don’t listen if the thing come it will affect everyone,” Chief Kawor.

”Let’s put the house in order so we can have a peaceful transition and avoid bringing bad luck on Liberia.”

Meanwhile, Cultural Ambassador Julie Endee and Mano River Women Peace Network Ruth Ceasar said they are committed in holding discussion with stakeholder to maintain the peace.
