“Generation equality a recipe for women’s empowerment “Chairperson-elect raps at International Women’s Day

The Chairperson-elect of the civil society council of Liberia has made
passionate plead for the consolidation of efforts to promote women’s rights in the society.

Lauretta Pope Kai observed making conscious and constructive efforts for the capacity building of women is a strategic investment for a progressive. society
Serve  as keynote speaker at the official events marking the observance of International Women’s Day in Monrovia calls for the driving of efforts to promote generational equality.

“This is inspiring popular mobilization; demanding accountability and driving
accelerated actions to advance women’s rights and gender equality.” Kai. noted

Kai, who just participated in and won the civil society council elections, said  she was extremely excited to take to the podium to share her experience on generation equality.

“As someone who grew up in a slum community; I know all too well about the challenges a girl child faces in those areas. But with the help of our parents and community, girls growing up in slum communities can turn out to be progressive and productive citizens like us here

“Kai told the audience to thunderous cheers.
Kai  also  the used  occasion to salute what she calls the enduring courage of Liberian women towards the peace and stability of the society.

“Our history is plastered with stories of the invaluable contributions of  Liberian women to the peace, security and development of this great nation.We salute their courage and determination on this day “, averred Kai.

Kai this burgeoning courage and determination of Liberian women should help inspire a wave of generation equality.

“It must mean that you are preparing a world for every young girl, woman and boy to excel with no gender or sexual discrimination”

“It also means that you willingly accommodate and mentor young women to lead. And provide the space for the younger generation to learn and utilize their skills in productive ways “

“Be reminded that this generation has rights and is entitled to same “Kai emphasized.

At the colorful ceremonies held at the Ministerial complex in Monrovia speakers from the Irish embassy, the US embassy and ECOWAS also highlighted the need for the continued pulling of resources to promote women’s empowerment.

“No society flourishes without the active participation of women” ECOWAS Ambassador Liberia Tunde Ajisomo observed in a statement on behalf of the sub regional body.

For his part, the country director of Oxfam renewed calls for collective action to protect the rights of women and girls in the Liberian society.

“Oxfam in Liberia will continue to work with the Government, Civil Society Organizations and the People of Liberia to promote women’s rights, protect women from violence, and support women’s active participation and
representation in decision making at all levels.” Shah Liton assured.
“The global campaign theme: “Each for Equal”. This theme says that we all bear an individual responsibility to promote women’s rights – and to work together – to have a greater impact.”
