Cracks within CoP Deepens as Rep. Yekeh Kolubah partially Quits membership

IPNews-Monrovia: Representative Yekeh Kolubah of Montserrado County district #10 has partially parted ways with the council of Patriots (COP).

The Council of Patriots (COP) is a pressure group organized by some group of Liberians within the ranks of the opposition community who are majority members of the former ruling government headed by former president Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

CoP who says their sole intent is holding the government of former soccer great George Manneh Wesh accountable for the betterment of Liberian society has been rocked with internal discontent by some members of the group.

It may be recalled, Wilmot Paye, chairman of former ruling party and an executive member of CoP surprisingly on the eve of the January 6, 2020, planned protest by Co         P, called on partisans and well-wishers to boycott the protest on grounds that the protest had no tangible effect as of the postponement on it on an earlier date of December 31, 2019.

Paye stated that there was need to continue on the path of protest which has the propensity to undermine the peace and tranquility of the country.

On the heels on Wilmot Paye’s turnaround, another defeated member of the CoP , Ambassador Rufus Neufville, promised to stage a counter protest which immediately led to early morning diplomatic negotiation of the cancellation of the December 31st , 2019, protest by CoP.

Now, another member of the CoP considered by many as the ‘power-house of CoP’, is now suspending his membership with the group for an undisclosed reasons.

In a communication addressed to the leadership of the COP dated January 24, 2020 trending on social media, particularly Facebook, Representative Kolubah did not state clearly his reason for quitting the COP.

“I am indefinitely suspending my membership with the Council of Patriots (COP) until at which time it can becomes necessary for same to be reactivated,” the communication quotes Representative Kolubah.

The communication further quotes Representative Kolubah as saying that he still remains a strong critic of the Coalition of Democratic Change (CDC) led government headed by President George Manneh Weah, but sees it necessary to part-ways with the CoP.

The Montserrado County district #10 lawmaker stated within the communication that he will remain a critic of the Weah led administration until which time the Liberian leader can use the country’s natural resources to revitalize the country’s ailing economy and better the lives of the ordinary Liberian people.

“I hereby reaffirmed my opposition to the Weah led government until it can use the available resources with which this country is endowed to revitalize the country’s ailing economy and better the lives of the Liberian people and give them dignity,”  Representative Kolubah noted in the communication.

The fire burn though talking Representative of Montserrado County district #10 asserted in the communication making rounds on social media that while he remains an influential member of the opposition Alternative National Congress (ANC), and will forever be willing and prepared to join a group of Liberians in bringing this government feet to the fire in doing the right things.

It can be recalled, that Representative Kolubah, was one of the main planners of two successive protests, June 7, 2019 and December 6, 2020 held by the COP against the government of Liberia in which it presenting several counts ranging from discontent over the Messy economy and the unprecedented corruption in the George Weah government.

He was recently accused by the Liberia National Police (LNP) of carrying fire arms on the grounds of the January 6, 2020 protest a claim he has since denied.
