Over Chaotic Protest At Capitol, Rep. Yekeh Kolubah wants LNP Appear before Plenary

IPNews-Monrovia: Montserrado County District Ten Representative, Yekeh Kolubah, has complain the Liberian National Police (LNP) to the plenary of the House of Representatives over recent chaotic protest that led to the police using tear gas on the grounds of the Capitol.

In his communication to plenary, the Montserrado County Distrct Ten lawmaker recalled that on last Tuesday, a group of protesters gather at the Capitol to sound a message to their representatives, the LNP through the instruction of the Ministry of Justice, dispersed said gathering tear gas allegedly effectuating several arrest on the protesters.

He believed the LNP overstepped their bound by grossly inconveniencing their staffers who were in their various offices executing their legislative and professional duties.

According to him, the atmosphere created for them (lawmakers) by the LNP did not just create panic and distraction, but also made the victim of flimsy smells of the poisonous tear gas; which amounts to disruption of their normal working activities.

In view of the foregoing, the Montserrado County lawmaker pray plenary to invite the Inspector General of police and the Minister of Justice to explain the legality of their actions to use tear gas at the Capitol and effect a form of arrest without seeking the permission from authorities of either Houses of the Legislature.

“Honorable Speaker, I believe we must begin to take needed actions to ensure the safety of our staffers and help prevent the recurrence of such action by the police that has the propensity to steer up strive amongst their people,”  Representative Kolubah in his communication averred.

Meanwhile, after several minutes of deliberations on the issue, plenary voted to send the communication to the Committee on Security to investigate and report in two weeks.
