“Let this serve as a path Life Transformation”, Eastern Star Grand Matron Sheba Brown Encourages Female Inmates; As OES Makes huge donation to Prison Center

IPNews-Monrovia: The General Grand Matron, Order of the Eastern Star, Worthy Sister, D. Sheba Brown, has encouraged female inmates at the Monrovia Central Prison, to see their time at the center to retrospect on their misconduct, learn the lessons and turn away from their previous action which brought them to serving prison time.

Worthy Sister Brown, stated that it was necessary to see the prison time as a reawakening call for total transformation into being good citizens.

“Let not your being in prison today deter you from being focus that when you are out of this place you shall be usable citizens

“Liberia needs you and you can only have apart in the new Liberia, when you desire to change from the ugly past and endeavoring to use this experience to transform your lives to being good citizens and desiring Liberians.” Worthy Sis. Brown stated.

Making the donation, to the Superintendent of the Monrovia Central Prison, Varney Lake, Worthy Sister Brown, stated that the donation was the continued desire of the General Grand Chapter, Oder of the Easter Star, to see female inmates at the Central get the necessaries of life, as a way of giving them hope that ‘there is a better tomorrow which requires their collective efforts and commitment to change.

She said the donation contains sanitary pads, several provisional items, such as washing and bath soap, cream, clothes, food and none food items which are essential for ladies.

Receiving the donation, one of the female inmates (name withheld), lauded the Order of Eastern Star for the donation, stressing that the donation had come at no better time than now when female inmates at the Monrovia Prison Center were in serious need.

The female inmate, call on members of the Order of Eastern Star (OES), to lobby with authorizes of the Ministry of Justice, to timely adjudicate cases of pretrial detainees, mostly female inmates.

She said currently there was overcrowdedness of the prison facility, especially the female ward.

Also speaking was the Superintendent Varney Lake, who thanked Worthy Matron Grand Matron D. Sheba Brown and all members of the Order of Eastern Star, for their continued support to the Monrovia Central Prison over the years.

Superintended Lake recalled the successive donation of the Eastern Star to the Center, adding that their donation has helped the center cater to the many challenges confronting it in caring for inmates at the Center.

Superintendent Lake, added to the previous female inmates on the overcrowdings of the prison facility and all other facilities across the country.

“Today, we remain grateful to the Eastern Star, our mothers, who continued to think about this prison center, especially our female inmates.

“ We like to join call that you please help in lobbying for budgetary support for needed support to this Center. This prison was built to house 275 prisoners but today we have more than 1,792 prisoners here which continues to put a major challenge to us in keeping the center clean and protected.

“Your work over the years to this center, is laudable and we encourage you to continue that others may follow your good works and come to the said of the Monrovia Central prison Center.

Speaking earlier, the Acting secretary and co-chairman, Charity Committee, General Grand Chapter, Worthy Sister Massa S. S. Crayton, informed female inmates on the works of the Order in caring for the underprivileged and the disadvantage.

Worthy Sister Crayton, explained the good works of the Order regardless of the misinformation in the public about the activities of the Order of the Eastern Star.

“Fellow ladies, the Order of the Eastern Star, came into being to care and do charitable works for all, especially the underprivileged and the disadvantage.

“I guess you’ve heard so many negative at this Order, but there is it today that you have witnessed for yourself the works we do against all the false information.

“Our works for caring for the needy, the poor, the disadvantage, and underprivileged, especially our old-poor mothers and orphans (children with parents), will continue and we are happy to identify with you today.” Worthy Sister Crayton said.

The donation brought together officers and members of the General Grand Chapter, Worthy Matrons and sisters of subordinate chapters.
