IPNews-Monrovia-Liberia-Friday 8 February 2019: The opposition Alternative National Congress (ANC), says it is carrying out massive preparation ahead of the mid term Senatorial election and the ensuing Presidential and Legislative elections in 2023.
According to ANC National Chairman Lafayette Gould, it was time that members of the ANC regain their strength for the battle ahead.
“ Let call on all of our partisans across Liberia, that the ANC is leaving no stone unturned.”
“We are calling you today o hurry up and get all necessary jobs done to save Liberia in 2023, because it is going to be an uphill-downhill battle ahead of the mid term Senatorial and fourth coming Presidential elections, especially CDC as a ruling party going into those elections.” Gould said.
Speaking at the party’s National headquarters in Sinkor, Monrovia, at program marking the second welcoming ceremony of over forty-five new members, Gould cautioned that newcomers to work closely with the party and other party leaders by ‘encouraging other potential new members to join the party so as to transform the country from its state of backwardness’.
“If you join this party, we will give you more than one form for the membership, because the ANC strongly believes that you have the power to influence other people to come to it. This will give us the necessary change that we all want,” Gould said.
The former Director-General of the National Social Security & Welfare Corporation said the country is at a cross road with difficult time ahead which required the collective efforts of all to ensure Liberia rise again.
“Now we hear that the fishes have been auctioned; We also hear about our mountains, the next will be gold and iron ores. Before we look, there will be no more logs in our forests.” Gould rally the ANC Partisans.
Speaking on behalf of the ANC Legislative Caucus chairman , Gbarpolu County Senator, Daniel Flomo Naatehn, called on all to ensure ‘self-sacrifice to redeeming Liberia, especially when the governing CDC party does not mean well for the Constitution and the people of Liberia’.
Senator Naatehn stated that the ‘government does not respect the rights of its citizens, in an apparent reference to the debate involving the impeachment of Associate Justice of the Supreme Court Justice Kabineh Ja’neh.
Senator Naatehn contented that the impeachment of Justice Ja’neh is a ‘total disrespect to the law, and undermines the Constitution as the organic law which governs the country’.
He said the government has succeeded in canceling tenured positions of the various integrity institutions that were set up to hold the government’s feet to the fire independently, without fear or favor of the heads being removed from their various positions by the president.
Adding further, Senator Naatehn, said that those institutions were also set to make the country creditable to the international community when it comes to corruption, human rights, and good governance nut was now dissolved.
