Liberia: LRA Dorbor Jallah Remains Defiant

—Vows to Hold On In the Aftermath of Resignation revocation  

IPNEWS: Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) Commissioner General, Professor Dorbor Jallah remains defiant following reports of his purported resignation Tuesday, night.

In a statement posted on social media over his resignation revocation, Commissioner General Jallah stated ‘I will not resign; I remain committed to revenue collection’, suggesting he had been under pressure to resign and will not do so.

Commissioner Dorbor Jallah’s statement comes bare 24hrs following a report by the authoritative Independent Probe Newspaper quoting several sources within the corridors of the Executive Mansion reported the resignation of Commissioner General Dorbor Jallah, had tendered his resignation.

IPNEWS understand that Commissioner General Jallah’s resignation revocation came on the back of consultation with friends and some members of the Liberian Senate encouraging him not to resign until he was is fired by President Joseph Boakai.

Confident sources tell IPNEWS that President Boakai had asked the acclaimed anti-corruption fighter to resign but still remain defiant.

Pressure of Commissioner Jallah resignation comes amidst threats by former Commerce Minister Amin Modad, to expose others involved in the Med-Tech -sponsored luxury vehicle purchased.

IPNEWS understands that Commissioner Dorbor Jallah’s resignation was triggered by discontentment within international cycles over his longtime professed integrity fight, which has now stained in the Modad’s vehicle saga.

Meanwhile, given the gravity of the luxury vehicle, the Liberian Senate is expected to hold a committee hearing to ascertain reasons why the LRA dashed out such US$96,000 to former Commerce Minister Modad, who, too, resigned from his post few days ago.

President Boakai recent at a cabinet retreat reportedly ordered the resignation of some members of his cabinet for bringing unbearable embarrassment to his government, including Commissioner General, Liberia Revenue Authority Dorbor Jallah, Public Works Minister, Roland Giddings, including already resigned former commerce Minister Amin Modad.

Commissioner Jallah is at the center of corruption scam which saw the disbursement of US$96,000 to former Commerce Minister, Amin Modad, for the purchased of a 2024 Chevy Suburban from remittances of Med-Tech, a foreign-owned vessel tracking company that had recently faced huge reprisal for its huge charges at the Free Port of Monrovia, through the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) as a form of “Capacity-Building Support” to the ministry of Commerce.

Critics of Commissioner Jallah had entangled him into the corruption web over his inability to exercise ‘due diligence and fiscal care’ in the transaction which saw former commerce Minister divert the US$96,000 in purchase of the 2024 Chevy Suburban for personal use rather than vehicles for the Bureau of Inspectorate, Ministry of Commerce.
