ALICOR Applauds Grand Gedeh Legislative Caucus for Upholding Community Radio Independence

IPNEWS: The Association of Liberia Community Radio (ALICOR) has commended the Grand Gedeh Legislative Caucus for their upright stance against Superintendent Alex Grant’s recent decision to dissolve the advisory board of Smile FM and shut down the radio station.

In a communication dated September 13, 2024, addressed to Superintendent Grant, the Caucus highlighted the importance of the advisory board as the highest decision-making body of Smile FM, which consists of nine members nominated by their constituent groups.

ALICOR is pleased that the Caucus reminded the Superintendent to respect other legal framework that governs the community radio operations.

ALICOR expresses gratitude to the Grand Gedeh Legislative Caucus for their thoughtful intervention, urging Superintendent Grant to respect the law and the rights of the community radio station.

ALICOR is keen about the Caucus’s decision to call for the immediate reconsideration of the closure and the reinstatement of the Advisory Board in line with the 2018 bylaws and constitution of Smile FM Community Radio.

“We celebrate the decisive actions taken by the Caucus, which reflect a commitment to upholding democratic principles and the rights of community media,” said Hector Mulbah, ALICOR’s President.
