CDC Condemns Nimba Violence; Accuses Sen. Johnson of Instigating Chaos

But Nimba Sen. Koung Accuses Pres. Weah of Sending ‘Surrogates’ to Attack Them

IPNEWS – Coalition for Democratic Change’s (CDC) National Campaign Chairperson, Mr. Eugene Lenn Nagbe has condemned the violence that took place in Nimba County over to weekend. According to Nagbe, the violence was allegedly caused by Senator Prince Y. Johnson, who now supports the Unity Party Alliance, which is contention to the CDC.

Further blaming the Nimba County Senator, Nagbe said the violence was a scare tactic to put fear in the people of Nimba not to vote for President George Manneh Weah.

Nagbe accused Senator Prince Y. Johnson (left) of causing the chaos in Nimba. In pic are the two Nimba County Senators, including Jeremiah K. Koung, running mate to former Vice President Joseph Nyuma Boakai

Weah is seeking a second six-year term from Liberians, who are expected to go to the polls on Tuesday, November 14, to cast their ballots in a runoff election. The Liberian leader will go against former Vice President Joseph Nyuma Boakai of the former ruling now opposition Unity Party.

Speaking further, Nagbe accused the Senator of not being developmentally oriented and urged Nimbaians to not be afraid to go and vote for Weah.

The CDC National Campaign Chairman didn’t only direct his attacks to the Senator alone but also scolded Nimbaians that if they had been truly pushing for the presidency for their county, why they didn’t vote for Cllr. Tiawan Saye Gongloe, who is a son of Nimba and had participated in the October 10, 2023 Presidential and Legislative Elections.

“This issue with Prince Johnson is not about Nimba but it is about himself: he wants people who he thinks he can control. The people of Nimba County are very good people and they will vote for President Weah,” he stated.

But on the evening of November 10, 2023, the running mate to former Vice President Boakai, Senator Jeremiah K. Koung, called in on the Spoon TV late evening show to report to the world that he and Senator Johnson and some of their supporters, had been attached in Nimba, by supporters of one of President Weah’s aids— Mr. Anthony Quiwonkpa.

Koung, who is the other Senator of Nimba, accused President Weah of ordering his “surrogates” to attack them in Nimba.
