Prioritize Young People’s Agenda: FLY Head of Secretariat Encourages Politicians

The Head of secretariat of the Federation of Liberian Youth, Ernest Jallah has called on politicians to include into their manifestos, the agenda of the young people.

According to James, the issues of the future leaders of Liberia ahead of the crucial National elections are critical to Liberia’s democratic process.

Mr. Jallah speaking to our reporter named some of the young people agenda issues as the need to address the high unemployment rate, a significant concern of the challenged health sector that is greatly affecting the young people of Liberia on the overall average ratio.

Others are weak education system and the lack of youth empowerment.

Placing emphasis on education, he further indicated that there is a need to do more investment in the sector.

According to him, Liberia’s education system is below the belt noting that the Country do not have a real educated population and that is a big issue that needs to be addressed especially with focus on more investment in the sector.

Up to present , Liberia is yet to meet the UNESCO bench march of 25% budgetary support as its current budget is 20%.

On the issue of climate change, he observed and disclosed that non of the political parties or politicians have highlighted the issue of climate change which he stated is also important for the young people.

In said regard , the FLY official wants politicians to have a coherent position on the issue of climate change for the betterment of the society.

As for the issue of drugs and substance abuse, he pointed out that it is not only alarming but an attributing factor to increasing crimes across the Country.

On the other hand, Mr. Jallah urged the young people to remain engaged, focused and to discuss the issues void of violence.

“Let’s be peaceful during these elections time, discuss the issues and avoid hate speech, misinformation and disinformation and many others”, he urged his young colleagues.

Ernest stressed that the young people will be looking for practical and hands on solutions aimed at addressing their issues.

The FLY Head of Secretariat pointed out that unlike before, they will be more robust in cataloging politicians’ messages and or manifestos and will subsequently hold them to account for the common good of the Country.
