IAA Holds First Public Sector Compliance Dialogue Wednesday

IPNEWS-Monrovia: The Internal Audit Agency (IAA) will this week hold a stakeholder dialogue focused on the release of its first public sector compliance scorecard.

According to an IAA release, the stakeholders’ dialogue will run from Wednesday, July 12 to Thursday, July 13, 2023, at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex in Congo Town.

The dialogue will help provide a platform for stakeholders to brainstorm way to improve close collaboration and cooperation between IAA and management and other personnel of public sector entities.

The dialogue will help stimulate conversations aimed at creating further awareness of IAA roles and services.  It helps stress the importance developing smooth and open relationships with between the IAA and other actors in the public sector.

Emphasizing the importance of smooth and open relationships, the IAA notes that a smooth and open relationship with management and other personnel of public sector entities is imperative in achieving its mandate.

It adds that the free flow of information and open discussion of ideas is essential to resolving issues affecting the effectiveness of governance, risk management, controls, and accountability of public resources.

The IAA Director General David Kemah disclosed that notable attendees who have been invited to the compliance scorecard stakeholder’s dialogue are: Foreign Minister Honorable Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, Information Minister Ledgerhood Rennie, Lawrence George Acting Director General of the Liberia Institute for Statistics and Geo-Information Service (LISGIS) and Madam Mary Broh, Director General of General Services Agency (GSA).

Others include: Dewitt vonBallmoos, Director General of the National Social Security and Welfare Corporation, Madam Estelle Liberty-Kemoh, Director General of the Liberia Broadcasting System, Public Works Minister Ruth Coker- Collins, and Samuel Wlue, Transport Minister.

The Director General of the IAA, David Kemah, expressing excitement about the upcoming dialogue, explained that the compliance scorecard conference is aimed at reviewing the performance of government ministries and agencies in line with financial and governance laws.

Director General Kemah clarified the scorecard conference is not intended to name and shame any institution but to help promote efficiency and consolidate efforts to mitigate malpractices by righting the wrongs in the system.

The IAA DG Kemah further narrated that during the roundtable copies of the entities’ scores from the inaugural National Compliance Scoreboard developed by the IAA will be presented to heads of public institutions.

The Internal Audit Agency (IAA) is an autonomous public sector audit institution enacted into law by the National Legislature in September 2013 to replace the former Internal Audit Secretariat (IAS). The IAA has responsibility to establish, or where there are existing internal audit functions, take control and direct internal audit functions in all public sector entities in Liberia.
