Benoni Urey-ALP Woes Deepen; Youth Chairman Runs to JNB-Koung Rescue Train

—- As Concern Mounts Over Daughter’s Removal from JNB Tact Team

IPNEWS: The souring of relationships between Unity Party Standard Bearer Joseph Nyuma Boakai and his long-time ally Benoni Urey, Standard Bearer of the All-Liberia Party (ALP), seems to be deepening day by day since former Vice President Boakai chose Nimba County Senator Jeremiah Kpan Koung as his running mate.

The decision saw Mr. Urey and his ALP stalwarts boycotting the official unveiling of Senator Koung as Rescue-2 over a fortnight ago. Now, the wound has opened even wider beyond redemption.

This time around, the chairman of the All-Liberian Party (ALP) Youth League Mr. Mark Nemenlah Mentee Massaquoi has resigned, citing alleged betrayal as a reason.

“It is a time when silence became a sign of betrayal. Therefore, I write to tender in my resignation from the All-Liberian Party (ALP) to enable me freely and openly join the good-intentioned Liberians in support of JNB-JKOUNG-2023 Rescue Mission!” said Massaquoi in a letter Tuesday, 20 June 2023.

Massaquoi addressed his resignation letter to Mr. JSB Theodore Momo, Jr., ALP National Chairman.

He said his decision is in line with Article 13.1.0(a) and (b) of the By-law and Constitution of the ALP which sanction the rights for resignation of membership and its procedures.

According to him, his decision came in the wake of the displayed sign of alleged selfishness and grave unpatriotic inconsistency by Mr. Momo and ALP political leader, Mr. Benoni Wilfred Urey, regarding ALP’s support for Amb. Joseph Nyumah Boakai Sr.

“Since I enrolled into the membership of the ALP in 2019, it has been a pleasure serving and learning other social and political core values under your leadership, and interactions with fellow partisans. Hence, my family and I wish the ALP all the best,” he noted.

Meanwhile, concerns continue to mount over the recent removal from the JNB tact team of Madam Telia Urey, who formerly served as Chairperson prior to her replacement by Madam Meapeh Kou Gono.

The replacement of Ms. Telia Urey has further heightened public perception of ongoing bad blood between the Ureys and the Unity Party.

A day into her sudden replacement, Ms. Telia Urey posted on social media “When people repay your good with evil, you leave them with God and continue to do better!”, in an apparent mis-feelings about certain people who fail to appreciate when others do good for them, rather, they pay back with evil.

Telia Urey’s post immediately caused a flurry of reactions from the public who had anticipated the fallout, but some felt that Ms. Urey should have been bold enough to disclose the source of her frustration.

Amidst all this, the public continued to wonder whether or not Telia Urey resigned from her position of Chairperson of the JNB Tact Team-2023, or was unceremoniously replaced to fill in the gap created when she and the ALP withdrew their alliance with the Unity Party (UP), thereby leaving her chairperson position vulnerable? Did the UP really undercut Ms. Urey by replacing her without consultation? These were some of the questions lingering on the minds of ordinary people as the public watched the fallout of two former best friends.
