Foreign Minister Kemayah Receives Five Ambassadors-designate to Liberia

Foreign Minister Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, Sr., on Wednesday, February 22, received in audience five Ambassadors-designate to Liberia, when the incoming ambassadors paid courtesy call on him at his Foreign Ministry Office on the Capitol Hill, Monrovia.

The courtesy calls by the Ambassadors-designate come ahead of their separate meetings with President George Manneh Weah, aimed at presenting their Letters of Credence to the Liberian leader.

The Ambassadors-designate, who are expected to present their Letters of Credence to the Liberian President include H.E. Ambassador Jeroen Verheul, Ambassador-designate of the Kingdom of Netherlands; H.E. Ambassador Kim Young-Chae, Ambassador-designate of the Republic of Korea; H.E. Ambassador Tom Norring, Ambassador-designate of Denmark; H.E. Ambassador Leena Pylvanainen, Ambassador-designate of the Republic of Finland; and H.E. Ambassador Ingrid Mollestad, Ambassador-designate of the Kingdom of Norway.

At a separate ceremony, Minister Kemayah received copies of the Letters of Credence from each of the Ambassador-designate and congratulated them for their preferment as Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Liberia.

Receiving copies of the credential from the Ambassador-designate of Netherlands, Minister Kemayah hailed the cordial bilateral relations between Liberia and the Netherlands and assured the Ambassador-designate of Liberia’s determination to strengthen cooperation with the Netherlands aimed at enhancing growth and development for Liberia.

The Dean of the Cabinet expressed optimism that the bilateral cooperation between both countries will be further enhanced during the tenure of Ambassador Verheul as Ambassador to Liberia.

Welcoming the Ambassador-designate of Korea, Foreign Minister Kemayah recounted the historic ties dating back to the 1960s and expressed confidence that Liberia-Korea relations will be marked by excellent achievements through bilateral cooperation during the tenure of Ambassador Young-Chae.

Minister Kemayah then assured the Korean’s Ambassador-designate of his Ministry’s willingness to assist the Korean’s Envoy in making his tour of duty in Liberia fruitful and rewarding.

Foreign Minister Kemayah said Liberia looks forward to working closely with the incoming Envoy to promote and strengthen bilateral cooperation with the Korea, mainly in the area of trade, technology and proposed a joint cooperation commission between the two countries in order enhance trade and commerce.

Also responding, the Ambassador-designate of Korea assured Liberia of his country’s determination to strengthen bilateral ties and cooperation with Liberia, in many areas of trade aimed at enhancing ties with Liberia.

Ambassador Young-Chae said in 2024 Liberia-Korea bilateral relations will celebrate 60 years of friendship, noting that the two countries look forward for this milestone achievement in bilateral cooperation.

Ambassador Young-Chae then assured the Liberian Foreign Minister of his Government’s willingness to get involved with Liberia’s development drive at all times. He also hailed President George Manneh Weah and his government for Liberia’s willingness to support Korean bid for the World Expo 2030 in Busan, Korea.

While hailing the cordial and longstanding bilateral relations with Liberia, Ambassador Young-Chae disclosed that Liberia was a great help to the people of Korea during the Korean War, noting that the Liberian government at the time assisted Korea.
