‘Margibi Not Safe Place for Criminals’ – County University Students

IPNEWS: A group of students under the banner, ‘Margibi University Students Union, (MARSU)’, has labeled former minister of state Nathaniel McGill as an alleged ‘internationally acclaimed criminal’ who has been sanctioned by the American government for alleged corruption, and calls on citizens of the county to reject his senatorial bid comes October 2023.

The students, in a position statement read on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, in the City of Kakata, by Ramsey Mulbah, said Margibi is a decent county that contains decent people with integrity; and that “it is not a dump site or a safe place for a well-recognized alleged criminal sanctioned by the United States government.”

The student’s union believes that the sanctioned former Minister of State, McGill’s involvement in alleged corruption activities in Liberia is the major reason the pavement of a 7.5-kilometer road promised Margibians by President George Weah is yet to begin, likewise the speedy rebuilding of the C.H. Rennie hospital, the biggest Referral hospital in Margibi County after it was gutted by fire.

According to them, they have declared Mr. McGill persona non grata in Margibi County and is not welcome there for any political activities, adding “with immediate effect that we call on all county’s officials and Margibians who are doing or may have been thinking of doing business with him to desist.”

It can be recalled on Monday, August 15, 2022, the former Presidential Affairs Minister was one of the three top government officials of president Weah’s government that were sanctioned by the United States Treasury Department for public corruption and human rights abuse.

In September, Mr. McGill, along with his sanctioned colleagues succumb to public pressure and tendered in their resignations. Since then, Nathaniel McGill has heavily engaged himself with campaign activities in Margibi County convincing the people to elect him as the best candidate over incumbent senator Jim Tornonlah.
