–As Dr. Whapoe Gets Endorsement to Contest Presidential Election
The opposition Vision for Liberia Transformation (VOLT) political leader, Dr. Jeremiah Z. Whapoe, has for the first time since 2017 elections declared his willingness to contest as the presidential seat in the pending 2023 election as a son of Nimba County.
Addressing score of Nimbaians, particularly women, youths and elders, over the weekend, Dr. Whapoe said even though in 2017 he contested as one of the presidential candidates but did not win due to some overwhelming missteps and other factors, yet he remains forever ready to unseat incumbent president George Weah, comes October elections in 2023.
“The first thing I want to tell you before going forward, is that, this coming election in 2023, I, Jeremiah Z. Whapoe a proud son of Nimba County, will be running for president of Liberia. This public announcement has not be made anywhere or any other County this is my first time and I am telling you all because you are my own people” Dr. Whapoe declared.
The VOLT political leader and his team arrived in Ganta City in Nimba County for the declaration of the presidential bid of its standard bearer Dr. Jeremiah Z. Whapoe, on Friday, September 23, 2022.
The group was received and welcomed at the Nengehin Town junction, by the chair lady of Ganta Women, Madam Famatta Lombaye and escorted to the Concern Ganta Women Hall, along with the elders, women, youths, as well as children and the Traditional Bush Master (Country devil) which is several miles from the main commercial city.
Openly voicing his ambition to contest for the presidency, the vocal opposition politician said that he came to tell his people first about his ambition to contest and to get their blessings and mandate because it’s necessary, adding that the house have to sell you before the streets buy you.
“The reason I came to Nimba first and chose the women to make this announcement is because they are my mothers and they can’t deny pregnancy therefore, they can’t deny their own son. You will multiple this message to millions because that is the gifts that God has given you. You will produce and we will be millions and successful. 2023 your son will be running” He stated.
Cautioning the women and people of Nimba to be aware of what he calls fake sons, Dr. Whapoe used a parable saying that everyone woman that has children knows the footsteps of her children and she doesn’t treat, love them equally based upon the respect, and behavior toward her.
He urged the women and Nimbaians to be wise because many will come calling themselves sons of Nimba, whereas Nimba county has benefited nothing from them.
“Some of your son’s will say they want War Crimes court that is the song they are singing all over the place. I am not saying War Crimes court is wrong oh but I don’t think it will help put food on your table. Many promise to give you business because they are business persons but they have not done that neither are they having businesses in Liberia” he warned.
Explaining his vision for Liberia and how he intend to transform Liberia through agriculture, Dr. Whapoe told the women that in 2017 he promised Liberia during the debate that he was going to transform Liberia through agriculture so that the least child who parents can’t afford food for them will be able to eat three times a day by Liberia growing what it’s eats.
According to him, he is the biggest farmer across Liberia and is producing rice, cassava, and peanuts in Nimba, Grand Cape Mount and Gbarpolu County, adding that if he can commit to that promise it clearly indicates that when given the space he will do more to uplift the country from its economic backwardness.
Meanwhile, Ganta Women, chairlady, Madam Famatta Lombaye expressed appreciation to Dr. Whapoe for reflecting on his roots and coming back to get his mother’s blessings to enable and empower him to contest.
“Nimba can produce president and we will produce president in 2023 and that president will be no other person but you our own son, Dr. Jeremiah Z. Whapoe. We listened to all you have said and we endorse you for 2023. You have our blessings and we will stand by you until this victory is brought to us next year 2023 after the election” Madam Lombaye assured.
She however, strongly debunked the notion that Nimba is not ready neither will they produce president, saying that “people who say that Nimba County can’t produce president are lying because today we saying it’s a big lie because Nimba can produce president and 2023 we will produce our son Dr. Whapoe as our president.” By Taisiah K.
