IPNEWS: Barely two weeks now, since the nomination of Judge Yamie Gbeisay to the Supreme Court by President George Weah, a British national, Hans Armstrong has alarmed over injuries of racist comments by Judge Yamie Gbeisay.
Armstrong stated that since he filed a complaint before Chief Francis Korkor and subsequently forwarded the same communication to Associate Justice Yusaif D Kaba, then Justice-in-chambers, he is yet to be accorded due process or invited by the Judicial Inquiry Commission (JIC).
Speaking to judicial reporters over the weekend, Armstrong revealed that based on the racist comments made by Judge Gbeisay then assigned Circuit Judge, of the Sixth Judicial Circuit, Civil law Court, and subsequent filling on May 4, 2021, for unethical transgressions during a divorce case filed by his Liberian wife, Karen R. Clarke Armstrong, the matter is yet to be investigated.
He recalled that in one of Judge Gbeisay’s judgments against him, the Judge described him as a hard-core racist, who doesn’t have respect for black people, the Liberian people, and the authority of Liberian courts, and he (Armstrong) seems to have colonial mentality as black people are less human being.
Armstrong pointed out that the provocative utterance of Judge Gbeisay against him compelled him to seek legal redress.
“I forwarded my complaint against Judge Gbeisay to Associate Justice Yusaif D Kaba, then chairperson to the Judicial Inquiry Commission (JIC) meditating the commission to conduct an investigation into the matter, and to submit their finding to the Chief Justice Francis Korkor, yet there hasn’t been any redress”. He averred
Armstrong further said that the nomination of Judge Gbeisay as Associate Justice at the Supreme Court bench by President George Weah, has huge consequences for Liberians and foreigners who are doing business in Liberia, especially those anticipating Justice, if Judge Gbeisay is confirmed as Associate Justice.
” The nomination of Judge Gbeisay by President Weah, shocked me because I know President Weah is a man that respects Justice and fair play. Perhaps the president is being made to believe that Judge Gbeisay, has integrity, fairness, and transparency, but on the contrary, Judge Gbeisay publicly used his courtroom to accuse people of being a racist intended to destroy their image. As a British investor, who had been doing business in Liberia since 2008 providing jobs for hundreds of Liberians, the nomination of Judge Gbeisay is unfortunate because it has the propensity to drive away potential investors.”
“I recalled that Judge Gbeisay on Friday, July 16, 202,1 published in the Hot Pepper Newspaper describing himself as a no-nonsense judge who does not fear anything. This statement and media publication annoyed counselor Tiawan Gongloe, one of my Lawyers and pleaded to have Judge Gbeisay rescue himself from the divorce case because of his racist comments yet Judge Gbeisay presided over the divorce case.” Hans Armstrong alleged.
Judge Gbeisay has not responded to this latest allegation by Hans Armstrong, following frantic efforts by this paper for his comments up to press time.
