FIRST IT WAS Maxwell Saah Kemayah, then Liberia’s Ambassador to the United Nations, who Madam Wynee Cunnings Wilson, a female staff working at the diplomatic mission in Washington accused of sexually harassing her.
- KEMAYAH HAS since denied the allegation and the Government of President Weah, who once upon a time declared himself feminist-in-chief of Liberia, is yet to hold Kemayah accountable, neither reprimand him in spite of the damage his alleged act has done to the Country’s diplomatic mission in the United States. KEMAYAH HAD just been appointed by President Weah when the news about his alleged sexual assault on the embassy staff broke out.
- EARLY THIS YEAR, the press attaché to the Liberia mission in Abuja, Nigeria, Nat Bayjay, alarmed that an embassy staff had raped his teenage daughter.
TO DATE, THE alleged perpetrator of the act has not been brought to justice and not a single word has been heard about the case, meaning, that matter has been swept under the carpet despite the gravity of the aspersion these embarrassing reports from our foreign missions have cast on this Country.
AGAIN, ON FRIDAY, September 23, 2022, another disturbing news broke out that two officials of the Liberia Maritime Authority, including Moses Owens Brown, Liberia’s permanent representative to the International Maritime Organization, IMO and another Liberian maritime staff have been arrested in South Korea on allegation of rape.
MOSES OWEN Browne (Liberia’s Permanent Representative to the IMO) and Mr. Daniel Tarr (Director of the Department of Marine Environmental Protection), were in South Korea attending the International Maritime Organization (IMO) GHG SMART Practical Training and Study Visit (September 19-23, 2022) when this alleged incident occurred.
POLICE OFFICERS WENT to their hotel and burst into it to effect the arrest. What a disgrace to them and our dear Country, Liberia.
THIS LITANY OF allegations of sexual misconduct by our Foreign Service officials is not only disturbing, but also demeaning our Country’s international image. This embarrassment must stop.
AS DIPLOMATS AND Foreign Service officers representing our Country’s image abroad, your actions must be representative of persons of integrity and high moral rectitude.
LET YOUR ACTIONS bring pride, not disgrace to first the diplomatic mission you serve on, and second, the Republic of Liberia, a respected member of the comity of nations.
THIS IS WHY we go on bended knees to ask you to stop this embarrassment to our foreign missions’ credentials and the Country at large.
