Liberia among 42 African Countries Licensed by FIFA to Televise World Cup ‘2022

IPNEWS-Monrovia: Liberia is among 42 African countries licensed by the Federation of World Football (FIFA) to televise the 2022 World Cup beginning November 20 in Doha, Qatar, the Deputy Director for Rural Broadcasting at the state-owned Liberia Broadcasting Corporation (ELBC), Isaac Garyeazon Redd has disclosed through his official Facebook page.

At a two-day workshop held in Lomè Togo for Heads of Broadcast stations from Africa, Mr. Alexandre Dujadin, Senior Manager of FIFA Media and Sales, informed the participants that this is the first time that FIFA and its partner, New World Television, have gathered heads of Free to Air Television and Pay for Channel Television Stations to review and agree on the Terms and Conditions of the Rights to broadcast the World Event.

He told participants that FIFA had given rights to over 200 Television stations in the World, and Africa has 42 of those rights.

“It will be a moment that these stations will bring emotions to their many audiences and be ambassadors of peace through football,” the FIFA Media Manager told the participants.

For his part, the Representative of the New World Television based in Lomè, Togo, Mr. Louis Biyao, said Free to Air Stations that have the Rights must work through their domestic laws to fight piracy.

He underscored FIFA’s willingness to work with local stations to geoblock unauthorized rights users.

Mr. Richard Dimosi, Chief Executive Officer of The MBS and Chief Exclusive Commercial Agent for New World Television operating FIFA broadcast servicing to African broadcasters, urged participants to make the minimum use of the opportunity to harness revenue and be an absolute satisfaction to their viewers.

This is the first World Cup in the winter, the first World Cup in the Middle East, and the first World Cup to be held in one City, Doha, with eight stadiums.

Thirty-two nations will participate in the event, and Sixty-four games will be played. Orange Liberia is the official sponsor of the event in Liberia.

The Rights to these State-owed Television stations will run from November 10 to June 2023.
