IPNEWS: The Monrovia Consolidated School System (MCSS) along Plan International Liberia to observe International Girl Day.
According to the invitation from Plan International Liberia to MCSS the group is requesting MCSS to support this year’s campaign “GirlsTakeOver” by allowing a girl child to symbolically take over the office of the Superintendent of MCSS on October 11, 2022.
The Superintendent of MCSS, Prof. Isaac Saye- Lakpoh Zawolo has accepted to cooperate with Plan International Liberia in celebrating the day of the girl child.
Additionally, Prof. Zawolo stated, in a communication address to the Acting Country Director of Plan International-Liberia, Madam Miriam Murray that his office will be available for such an event.
However, the Objectives of the Girl take over campaign are to renew the commitment to support young women and girls to take over leadership roles in political, economic, and social spaces; to highlight issues and priorities identified by girls themselves and begin a conversation to find a solution and financial commitments to open safe, inclusive pathways for girls and young women and their networks to meaningfully participate in decision- make.
Meanwhile, International Day of the Girls Child has been celebrated every year on October 11 which was adopted in December 2011, by the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 66/170 declaring October 11 each year as “International Day is to promote girls’ human rights, highlight gender inequalities and address the various forms of discrimination and abuse suffered by girls around the world.
