Judge under Probe for ‘Attempted Murder’

IPNEWS-Monrovia: The police commander of Sinoe County police detachment Inspector Clinton Doe on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 staged a peaceful protest before Supreme Court Chief Justice Francis Korkpor seeking justice for an alleged attempted murder crime meted against him by the Monthly and Probate Court Judge of Sinoe County identified as Octavius Doe.

Sinoe County Police Inspector Doe told journalists early Tuesday morning (August 8, 2022) on the grounds of the Temple of Justice that Judge Octavius along with seven men armed with sticks, handcuff, pepper spray and other deadly weapons attacked and beat on him for three hours.

Inspector Doe explaining his ordeal said the incident took placed on June 30, this year. He said he was beaten from 3-6 pm until he fainted. According to him, it took the help of citizens from Sinoe and Grand Kru to rescue and save his life from the hands of the Judge and others.

The police officer said he lost three thousand United States dollars in the process along with his cell phones. He noted that the money in question was intended for the renovation of the police depot.

He said he was later taken to hospital but while at the hospital, he began to receive death threat messages from the Judge and his associates who perpetuated the harm against him.

The policeman said the only crime he committed was to release a Ghanaian suspect from the police withholding cell.

Explaining further he said, the Probate Court Judge on June 7, 2022, arrested the Ghanaian who is a miner in Sinoe County for allegedly refusing to pay to court L$50,000.

The Judge mandated me to detain the man until the money can be paid but after the suspect spent four days in the cell he became sick. Thereafter, I informed the Judge and suggested that the man be taken to hospital to seek medication but the judge refused.

He said for fear of the suspect dying in the police withholding cell, he decided to allow the fiancée of the suspect signed for him to seek medical attention.

The policeman said he has written almost all of the Justice actors to include Supreme Court Chief Justice Francis Korkpor, Justice Minster Frank Musa Dean and Police Inspector General Patrick Sudue for redress but he is yet to get justice.

Supreme Court Chief Justice Francis Korkpor, however, acknowledged receipt of Inspector Doe’s complaint against the Monthly and Probate Court Judge of Sinoe County Octavius Doe.

Chief Justice Korkpor assured the police officer that his complaint has been transferred to the Judiciary Inquiry Commission a body that is responsible to investigate issue of Judges and magistrate misconduct in the discharge of their duty.

The Chief Justice called on the Sinoe County police inspector to first seek medical attention as his condition was fast deteriorating. Writes P. Nas Mulbah – Specialized Judicial Correspondent
