-For Such Reward Is in Heaven
Monrovia – Indian businessman and philanthropist, Mr. Upjit Singh Sachdeva, who is more popularly known as “Jeety”, is urging fellow big businesspeople in Liberia to also get involved in doing charities for ordinary Liberians.
Mr. Jeety, who is former Honorary Consul General of India to Liberia, emphatically stated that while the reward of such work—charity— may not be gotten on the earth, it is surely going to be obtained in Heaven, from God.
He spoke Tuesday, July 26, when he led his team of fellow Indians and Liberians alike, to the Monrovia Central Prison (MCP), where they had gone to provide hot, cooked bowls of split-pea bean soup with rice, cake, water and soda (soft drink) to the over 1000 inmates, who are incarcerated in those facilities of the MCP.
He started his remarks by saying, “We are all prisoners of our actions. As the scriptures say, that rewards for whatever you do for God is waiting for you in heaven, I urge everyone to do more charities.
“Most of the businesspeople, when somebody’s business is flourishing, making more profits or more dividends, we all businesspeople, including myself, want to follow them and make similar business to make more profits because rewards for that business is on the earth. But whatever charities we do, whatever God’s work we do, the reward for that work is in heaven.”
Mr. Jeety then went on to urge all his colleagues in big businesses in Liberia and across the globe, to do such works for which the rewards are going to be awaiting them in Heaven.
“Today, again, we have brought hot, cooked, home meals, including cake, soft drinks, rice, bean soup and water. This is a nourishing meal. While they are in here, the inmates, they, too, should rejoice and have a happy independence celebration,” he said as he wished every Liberian a happy 175th Independence Day celebration.
Liberia on Tuesday, July 26, celebrated her 175th Independence Anniversary.
Speaking further, Mr. Jeety hailed the Superintendent of the Monrovia Central Prison, Officer Anthony Lake and his deputy, Justin Juah, for the courtesies that they usually accord him whenever he and his team come to the prison compound to carry out distributions.
He also told his audience that on last Saturday, July 23rd, he and his team were in Kakata, Margibi County to also give similar gestures to inmates at the Kakata Central Prison. According to him, it was Officer Lake, who had encouraged him to also extend his helping hands to that prison facility, which is about 40 kms from Monrovia.
On that Saturday, before he had presented the food items to the prison authority, the Indian businessman and philanthropist, said nothing gives him joy than extending a helping hand to people that are indigent.
“As I have said, don’t give to get, give to inspire others,” he stated.
On noticing that the prison compound does not have electricity, Jeety amidst applauds, promised to electrify the compound and donate a generator as an alternative source of power during the outage of public electricity.
When Mr. Jeety left the Monrovia Central Prison, he stopped on Center Street at the Pelham Building and handed out plates of hot, cooked meal to more 200 disadvantaged and wayward Liberians. From there he took his team to Weala, some 50 kms from Monrovia to also put smiles on the faces of kids in that part of the country. He is building a multimillion dollar rubber factory in Weala.
On Tuesday, July 26, after he had spoken at the MCP, the head of the prison, Superintendent Lake said they will continue to be grateful to Mr. Jeety for what he has done and continues to do for them.
“Today’s own specifically is like another good day for me. As you can see, the President has just executed portion of his Executive Order by granting few of my inmates his Presidential Clemency. It is so overwhelming for me. More over what you continue to do as it relates to the feeding aspects of the inmates,” Supt. Lake stated.
He went further to state the Indian Businessman has not just provided feeding for the inmates, but has done repair works on many of the prison infrastructures.
“Few days ago, we got hit by power outage and out submersible pump got damaged. I called on you and you were magnanimous enough to send your technician and started to work on it.”
