Government Gives US$50K for Renovation of PG Wolo High School

IPNEWS-Monrovia: The Government of Liberia has provided a staggering fifty thousand United States Dollars for the renovation of the PG Wolo High School in Grandcess, Grand Kru County.

Established since 1936, the building has not undergone any major renovation and is reportedly in a deplorable condition. As one of the oldest schools in the Southeastern Region, the PG Wolo High School has produced some of the well-educated and prominent sons and daughters of the Southeastern Region and Grandcess in particular.

The Government gave the money for the renovation of the school building through the instrumentality of the President Pro Temp of the Liberian Senate, Albert Tugbe Chie, himself a son of Grandcess, who lobbied with the Government for the money. The development comes few months after Senator Chie, who will be seeking reelection in 2023, visited Grandcess where the school is situated.

The check of fifty thousand United States Dollars has since been received by the schoolโ€™s Principal, District Education Officer and the Grandcess District, who have since deposited it in the schoolโ€™s account pending clearance.

The PG Wolo High School was named in honor of its founder Plenyono Gbe Wolo born in Grandcess in 1883 amid a brutal war. He graduated from the Harvard University with a distinctive BA, becoming the first African to graduate from the University among four thousand sixty-eight in the graduating class of 1917.

Meanwhile, citizens of Grandcess both at home and abroad have showered praises on Senator Chie for lobbying with the Government of Liberia to secure the funding for the renovation of the school building, while at the same time urging the schoolโ€™s authorities to use the money wisely and for the intended purpose; Writes David Nagbe Targbe.ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย
