IPNEWS-Monrovia: Days to the kickoff of the Bicentennial celebration, the president of the National Civil Society Council of Liberia, Alethea Pope Kai says the Society Organizations gave birth to Liberia and it is the foundation on which free black forefathers were shipped from slave plantations.
Speaking at the Ministry of Information Culture Affairs and Tourism special media briefing held at the Ministerial Complex in Congo Town, outside Monrovia, on Tuesday January 4, 2022; Ms. Kai announced playing a crucial role in integrating the thematic value chains and the objectives of the bicentennial celebration through civic programs and activities.
“I would like to again announce the participation of the National Civil Society Council on the Steering Committee for the 200 Years Bicentennial Celebration which kick off commences January 7 and spans throughout this year – 2022” while the theme of the celebration is: “Liberia The Land of the Return – Commemorating 200 Years of Freedom and Pan-African Leadership” she asserted.
According to her, the first phrase of the theme for the 200 Years Bicentennial Celebration which is: “Liberia: The Land of Return” exudes to her a very sacred and solemn sense of community and identity as well as patriotism and tribalism. “I mean it exudes to me a strong sense of the Liberian community, the Liberian identity, the Liberian patriots, and the Liberian tribe” she emphasized
She however calls upon all civil society organizations in Liberia, including national NGOs, community-based and faith-based organizations, Women groups, and Youth groups as well as other forms of non-governmental and non-for-profit establishments to fully participate in the celebration of the Bicentennial celebration.
Ms. Kai maintains that the role of the civil society of Liberia is crucial in ensuring not just a successful Bicentennial celebration but in assisting to translate the objectives of the celebration into concrete results beyond the celebration.
“All of us have a strong stake and interest in the development of Liberia. The stake of civil society in the development and recovery processes of Liberia is high.
