Supreme Court Re-cites House Today over “Refusal” To Pay Rep. Kolubah Salary, Other Benefits

IPNEWS-Monrovia: The Supreme Court of Liberia, through Associate Justice Presiding, Yussif D. Kaba, has re-cited the House of Representatives, represented by Speaker Bhofal Chambers to appear before its full bench today, Tuesday, November 23, at 3:00 p.m. in connection to a Bill of Information filed by Montserrado County District #10 Representative, Yekeh Kolubah.

Representative Kolubah on November 17, filed a Bill of Information to the Supreme Court against the Lower House’s alleged refusal to adhere to the Court’s mandate.

According to the Bill of Information, the House of Representatives agreed to pay Representative Kolubah salary and benefits for the month of June and ensure other rights are accorded to him.

“Informant says that the parties agreed that Respondent will pay to Informant salaries owed and ensure other rights are accorded the Informant,” The Bill of Information started.

“However, Informant says that the Respondent failed, refused, and neglected to pay Informant salary and benefit for June 2021.”

Flashback: President Weah and Rep. Kolubah in a reconciliation meeting

Representative Kolubah in the Bill of Information noted that since the mandate was sanctioned by Justice in Chambers, Joseph Nagbe, the House has refused to pay his salary and benefits for June as well as refused to include him in the house’s chartroom.

Kolubah informed the Supreme Court that the action on the part of the House of Representatives runs contrary to an agreement before Justice Nagbe, for which said Justice declined from issuing a writ to prohibit that august body.

In July of 2021, Representative Kolubah filed a petition for the prohibition against the House of Representatives, requesting the court to prohibit what he calls, the House ‘illegally’ denying him due process.

He described the House’s action as a violation of the laws of Liberia and disrespect to the Court, for which that august body must be made to pay his salary and benefits.

“Where and view of the foregoing facts and circumstances, the informant must respectfully pray your Honor and this Honorable Court to cause Respondent to pay informant salary and benefit for June 2021, further, the informant says that Your Honor will all that seems legal, just and equitable,” the Bill of Information noted.

It can be recalled in May 2021, Montserrado County electoral district #10 Representative Yekeh Y. Kolubah was suspended by his colleagues in the House of Representatives for ranting insults against President George Weah. The House took the decision after a report by the committee on rules order and administration on a complaint filed against Rep. Kolubah by Rep. Thomas P. Fallah, alleging constant use of abusive languages by the opposition lawmaker against the President.
