Prison Fellowship Wants Government Clean Liberia Tinted Human Rights Record

IPNEWS-Monrovia: The Country Director and CEO of Prison Fellowship Liberia, Francis S. Kollie has called on the Government of Liberia to work harder and clean the countryโ€™s tinted human rights, as released United Nations Human Rights recently.

Speaking to journalists in Monrovia on Wednesday October 13, 2021, Mr. Kollie pointed out that based on the several human rights violations reports by the United Nations on Liberia, Liberians at home and abroad are molested and humiliated due to such human rights record.

He also said investors have less or if not no confidence in the country to invest for fear their rights may not be protected if they come to invest in Liberia. The Prison Fellowship Director opined that it may be due to human rights record that tourists do not like to come to Liberia, but of course, the country has no developed tourism sites for tourists to explore.

Prison Fellowship Liberia country Director and CEO calls on the Government to increase the Liberia National Police (LNP) budget in other to fight and minimize crimes in Liberia. He said, crimes are on the increase in Liberia and prison facilities are overcrowded which have posted dark cloud on Liberians images in and around the globe.

Mr. Kollie stated his organization covers the entire country and closely working in training inmates with basic skills and providing legal solution for sexual and gender base violence SGBV survivals.

He noted, as the country is signatory to a lot of international human rights treaties, their work is more into developing justice-related issues and believe that any good government most apply good governance.

“Over the years Liberian human rights records remain tinted we want to work and make sure we advance and clean the record”, he asserted.

He noted that, the resistance of duty bearers to accept change is undermining the recovery of United Nations Human Rights violations reports on Liberia and warned there will be no change in UN Human Rights Reports on Liberia except the duty bearers accept the positive change.

โ€œWeย  have just introduced anย  ODIKAY softwareย  systemย  to be able to track SGBV cases across the country,ย  reduce manual court records that cause errors or manipulation, minimize corruptions and ill practices in the judicial system” he stated.

He suggested, the government and the public must support the police to fight crimes and violations, and called on the Justice and Gender Ministries to fight human rights abuses or expect it to flag again in United Nations Human Rights Report on Liberia.
