IPNEWS-Zwedru: Civil Society Organizations in Grand Gedeh County have expressed their disagreement with authorities in the county as it relates to a report, they released concerning earth-moving equipment.
Addressing a press conference over the weekend in Zwedru, the CSOs termed as fake report the local authorities presented to the President. They also described it as seeking favor from the President.
President George Manneh Weah was recently in the county as part of his six-county tour, which is part of his nationwide tour.
The spokesperson of the Grand Gedeh CSOs, Madam Chemo Krayee, mentioned that the county’s earth-moving equipment are no longer seen in the county. According to her, there is “a dark picture” as to the whereabouts of the machines.
The CSO had been denied making remarks when the President was in the county and held a townhall meeting with the county people.
The CSOs spokeswoman described the county’s authorities’ move as “political”. She further stated that they should speak the truth.
“The CSO in Grand Gedeh is an independent body that cannot allow the local authority and the caucus to dictate to their independent views,” Madam Krayee stressed.
When Superintendent Kai Farley gave his performance report to the President about happenings in the county, he stated that the county’s earth-moving machines are some place in the county and grading feeder roads in rural communities.
Supt. Farley’s reports, especially the one on the machines, have sparked serious public agitation, with many Grand Gedeans terming them as “misleading and only intended to please the President that all is well under his leadership.”
Further in his report, the Superintendent informed Pres. Weah that his administration had rented one of the machines to a local construction NGO operating between Grand Gedeh and Sinoe Counties for US$15,000. He drew the eerie of the people when he told the President that the money was used to create awareness against the deadly Coronavirus disease. However, IPNEWS was told by a source within the Zwedru City Hall that the machine was rented for US$45,000, which is being paid in phases.
The CSO further states that these reports are not the core issues facing the local population as the county is engulfed with so many challenges.
The earth-moving equipment were purchased from the county developments funds through a resolution from delegates of the county council sitting in 2016 under the leadership of former Superintendent Peter L. Solo.
Since the appointment of Superintendent Kai Farley, there has been controversy over his leadership potency and administrative knowledge in handling the county. Some residents have publicly called for his resignation while others have asked the President to dismiss him for his poor performance in managing the affairs of the county.
