IPNEWS – Monrovia: The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in collaboration with Conservation International (CI) and with funding from the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) is conducting a two-day Capacity Building Training Initiative for Transparency (CBIT) on communication strategy for media practitioners and actors within the sector.
The two-day workshop, which is being held at a local hotel in Sinkor, from February 25-26, 2021, brought together several media practitioners from both print and electronic media and line government ministries and agencies to get knowledge on the CBIT.
Proxying for the EPA head, Mr. Wilson Tarpeh at the opening of the workshop, Multilateral Environment Agreement Coordinator (MEAC), Jefferson Nyanibo said the communication strategy meeting is of importantance under the CBIT adding that information dissemination is key in anything that people do concerning climate change.
Mr. Nyanibo urged participants to pay key attention to presentations from facilitators for benefits of the CBIT project and country.
Speaking on behalf of Conservation International (CI), Mr. Mark Olando said the training is important for media practitioners to know more about the Paris Convention on CBIT.
Olando said it is important to build people’s capacity on the subject and enable Liberians get on par with other countries on the CBIT Paris Convention.
Highlighting the overview of the workshop
Madam Patimillia Doe Paivey, who served as one of the facilitators, said the workshop is to look at the strategy that will be put together in ensuring that the CBIT is a living document.
She said the main objective of the training is to increase the skills and knowledge of communication officers to communicate the work of CBIT and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC).
Madam Doe-Paivey further mentioned that the CBIT is to strengthen the capacity of institutions to track NDC implementation and sustain transparancy efforts over the time.
