IP NEWS – Grand Gedeh County: President George Manneh Weah over the weekend broke ground for the construction of a 150-bedroom hospital for the people of Grand Gedeh County.
The site is about three kilometers away from Zwedru and when completed, patients from the surrounding counties like River Gee, Sinoe, Maryland and Grand Kru who will be in critical conditions will no longer have to pass through Grand Gedeh and go to the Jackson F. Doe Memorial Hospital in Nimba County.
The groundbreaking is part of several that the President have done during his present six-county tour of the country.
He is in Grand Gedeh after making stops in Bong and Nimba Counties. The President was given a rousing welcome to Zwedru City in Grand Gedeh.
The 150-bedroom medical facility will be constructed by the Welt Hunger Hilfe with funding from the German Development Bank/KFW. The hospital is expected to be named in honor of the late former President Samuel K. Doe, who hailed from Tuzon in Grand Gedeh County.
Along with the hospital project groundbreaking, the President also did similar to further increase the number of pro-poor housing units to be built for the Ivorian refugees residing at the PTP Refugee Camp in the county. Those refugees had fled instabilities in their country.
The President also dedicated the 7th Judicial Circuit and an annex of the Grand Gedeh Community College.
Earlier when he spoke at the townhall meeting with Grand Gedeans and others, President Weah called on Liberians to sustain the peace at all times, which he said leads the way to development and growth of the nation.
The Liberian leader disclosed to the people of Grand Gedeh that negotiations were underway with partners to start the Tappita to Zwedru Road Corridor as the Ganta to Tapitta road corridor is approved and work will begin soon.
He thanked the people of Grand Gedeh for their continued and overwhelming support for his presidential ambition. He assured them that under his leadership, the people and county will immensely benefit from his development initiatives.
